Hi. PR in Canada, thinking of going to the US for a few days. Does the "Visa waver" program still exist? If not, how do you get a visa?
Many Thanks.

This has been discussed many times and as recently as a couple of weeks ago - I'm surprised your search didn't pull anything up.
Yes the visa waiver still exists. It costs $6us per person. If you are flying into the US than you have to complete an on line form 3 days ahead of you entering the US. This is not necessary at this time if travelling by car.
When you get to the border you will hand over your passports and be required to answer some questions on where your going, how long for and why or suchlike. You will then be asked to park up and go inside to see the guys inside, who will then take finger prints and a picture, charge you your money in US $ payable by cash or credit card and then sent on your way. On return to Canada you make sure your hanifn in your green bit from your passport UNLESS you are returning before the green bit expires.

Many thanks! I did do the Visa waver thing a few years ago, and it's exactly as you said with the forms and stuff. Not having been there in years and with all the talk about Bio Metric passports and all that, I didn't know what the latest was on that. Plan to drive accross the border and fly within the US, so we'll have plenty of time to do the whole paperwork thing! Thanks again!

I wonder if you still have to pay for the visa waiver if you walk over the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls. I would guess so but is it quicker to process than the 20 mins I had to wait last time I drove over.

Yes you still have to pay. I guess the wait depends on how many people are queued up before you. When we walked over we waited about 10 minutes.
