Netflix Canada lanched today....

Then don't read the thread. Then you don't have to deal with pesky people with differing opinions.
Pretty big assumption there re: looking for brand new releases. That's not what we look for at all. Videomatica works well for us because it has a lot of indie stuff and stuff that is really hard to find in north america. IF netflix improves it's selection dramatically then we'll reconsider but of the friends that have it, many have found the selection really disappointing and warned us about it.

we have been enjoying it.....some really good foreign flicks and a ton of Brit shows, many that we had not seen before... Mi5, Chef, and some old favs like Black Adder. There is a fair bit of crap on there too, but we just turn it off.
It could def do with expanding the selection but not bad for a mere 8 bucks a month... it almost costs that for a pint here.

There's a lot of documentaries on there. Also the foreign (european) movie selection is not bad. If you want latest Hollywood blockbusters look elsewhere.
What do people think of the picture quality? I find I get tearing and flickering on my LCD TV. It varies. Silverlight (Netflix's player) is the culprit. I don't know if there's a fix but I never get these issues when watching other stuff online.

You might want to investigate something else to watch on - I've heard the new Apple TV has a very good Netflix interface.

No quality issues streaming to a Windows 7 Home Theater PC (ACER REVO) connected to the TV.
Certainly no issues with Silverlight.
The little old REVO works great with Expatshield.

I'm all for debate, but simply saying it's "shit" without explanation doesn't help other people in the thread who are thinking of checking it out. If you'd said that it wasn't for you because you want non mainstream/indie stuff then that would have made more sense - just because they don't have that doesn't make it shit, they're catering to mainstream tastes which is just common business sense.
I really don't get people who think only certain responses are acceptable on an internet forum like this and Everyone Must Toe the Line and then, somewhat like those prefects at school, go around telling everyone off. Don't. Get. It.

Its so crap and i forgot to cancel after the free trial. I know it's only $8 + tax but it's that bad that it isn't even worth 8c inc tax. The US gets the better deal once again. To add insult to injury you get to see all the titles UNAVAILABLE to you. Nice
