Re: Regret leaving Canada

I’m open minded and just challenging your statement. Some folk like and miss historical places, which I assume to mean in your context as older buildings like castles and stately homes, listed...

Re: Regret leaving Canada

Any further assumptions to add? You’re only representing your own biases and preferences. None of what you say is as categorical as you suggest.

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

Is that really the case? Everything I read suggests batteries are problematic and we're not well equiped to deal with them:Current EV batteries “are really not designed to be recycled,” says...

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

It f**** ‘em up. Think of your phone battery and how it responds to a day out skiing. Driving range is considerably reduced in cold temperatures.

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

It's about £60 ($105 CAD) in diesel to cover similar mileage here @ 50mpg or 4.75 l/100 kms

A timely and interesting video on hydrogen internal combusion engines developed by JCB:...

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

Nationally c25% of homes don't have off road parking, so your figures are meaningless regarding a wider perspective. I can only speak for my own location, your parents situation and choice of...

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

Terrific if you frequent urban areas with those amenities, but here are my local free options - I've neither the time, inclination or incentive to start driving miles out of my way to think an EV is...

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

What do I know, I only live here  The nearest small town for shopping/groceries etc is 17 miles away. There's no other amenities for 8 miles. What's your definition of rural UK life?

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

Waiting in line at a petrol station means a few minutes of inconvenience, not potentially hours. Comparing the 2 experiences and processes isn't very logical. The village I live in has around 800...

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

Comparing charger numbers to petrol stations isn't very useful - I can re-fuel in under 5 minutes, waiting in line isn't problematic.

Those of us that don't commute to urban areas have no option...

Most? There are 80+ houses on my street, roughly 60-40 split terraced-detached. Twelve have off-street parking.

Re: Canada to ban sales of conventional cars by 2035 - Trudeau

If you live rurally in the UK, infrastructure makes the purchase of an EV impractical. A 20+ mile round trip to recharge at a low voltage rate and subsequent multi-hour wait (assuming the charger...

Re: Moving back home but 18 year old refusing .

I left home for Australia when I was 18, and returned to the UK for higher education at a later date. Should you hold young adults back or let them make their own way in life?

Re: Rant-car dealerships

You realise that the lease costs include the estimated depreciation the car will suffer over the period of the lease term? So you are dealing with the depreciation by funding it out of your wallet...

Re: Any truth to this blog post?

I think you’re a bit out of touch regarding the monthly cost of leasing something ‘very expensive’. $2,000 p/mth upwards gets you into German or Italian sports car/luxury territory.

Re: Experience of flying to Canada during Covid

They're between a rock and a hard place - volume of customers now allowed makes profitability difficult, and retaining staff through months of closure isn't financially viable for many either.

Just to add to what’s been said, when on rural acreage, we didn’t get:

garbage collection
postal delivery service
cable tv or cable/fibre internet (satellite only)
fire coverage
mains...

Re: Cost of Living - Ontario

It's not just major cities where property taxes can sting - my last home in Kamloops, BC (pop. c90,000) had a property tax of $8,000 p/a. Living rurally outside of city limits was far more affordable...

Re: LMIA exempt and Owner Operator

Replied to your PM - here's the same info for anyone else contemplating the same route.
