No need to buy any book, plenty of free sites online with all the info and practice tests. I read it all over a weekend before I did my test.

The financial requirements should be increased if anything. If you can't get a job paying £10/hr to meet the requirements then you shouldn't be bringing any spouse over.

You will have to answer yes to that question for the rest of your life, so it really does not matter that much anymore.

Apply for the ESTA, answering yes to that question, and see what the result...
