Re: Any UK Ex pat police working in Edmonton?

My ex used to work for the Calgary police and he said that listening to the radio you'd think you were in the UK sometimes. This was a while back so I don't know if they were actively recruiting...

Re: What made you decide to make the move to Canada

I believe (might be wrong) that people are generally financially better off here than in the UK which is the reason many choose to come here as well as stay here. I am making about a double of what I...

Re: Moving back home but 18 year old refusing .

Tough call. Sorry to hear you have this extra worry on top of moving/covid/starting over. My friends left a while back to Europe (not the UK) only to return 6 months later because of their children...

Re: Imminent move and Coronavirus

Wow is that right? I wouldn't have expected that. My trip in June got cancelled (not the permanent move, that is happening next year) because my school is closed.

I hope this means things will be...

Re: Am I the only that thinks Canadian supermarket food is crap?

I just had this conversation with some Canadian friends. They thought the grab and go selection in stores these days is poor. So it may not be just UK vs Canada thing, but an overall decline of ready...

Re: UK NHS vs Alberta Health Service - Which one is best?

Wait time can be anywhere between 15 mins to 12 + hrs in Calgary. I have worked in a hospital for over 12 years and have seen a great variety of wait times, also depends on injuries.

Re: So it begins.......

Isn't that the crazy part? At one point it's just an idea and next thing you know you are looking at moving quotes and flights online. I remember it all happened so fast when I was moving to Canada...

Re: Immigrating to Calgary from UK.

Hello Gavin :)

As somebody else suggested, come over and network a bit first. Calgary has had high unemployment over the last few years due to a slow economy. It may take a few months for a local...

Re: UK NHS vs Alberta Health Service - Which one is best?

I have lived in AB for 13 years and work in healthcare. I have never used the UK system as an adult so I cannot compare.
It can be difficult to find a family physician (but not impossible). And the...

Re: Moving (back) to The UK to go to University, with questions!!!

I had a similar issue. I have a EU passport but have lived in Canada for more than 3 years, hence the international fees. Once she lives in the UK for a bit, she should get her residency status back...

Re: Costing of Living - Income vs Expenditure

I am trying to figure out the same. Single income (about 30-35K gross a year) but I was looking at one bedroom or even a studio to start. I also used one of those "take home after tax" websites.

Re: Moving to UK in 2020. Can I pull it off?

Thank you. I was worried about that. I wouldn't want to spend a hefty amount on a program I wouldn't be able to complete due to new immigration laws. I am also past the prime age to become a mail...

Re: Second Class Citizen

I think this will greatly depend on where you live. I found bigger cities to be more open-minded about immigrants. Canada has a lot to offer but it's not perfect. Nowhere is. I have had good and bad...

Re: Vacation/Holiday time issue
