moving back question
Hi All
Maybe a bit of a basic a question, but when i was asked i didnt know the answer
Not moving back myself but someone i know is,
now they were born in UK, and have a UK passport, lived in Canada 10+ yrs
can they just fly back or is there a requirement for any paperwork at UK end ?
anyone know ?
obviously there will be tax issues, etc in both countries
thanks for any replies
cheers jerry

Re: moving back question
If you have a British passport all you need to go to live in the UK is a plane ticket to get there. This is true irrespective of whether you have ever lived in the UK before.

Re: moving back question
We moved back in 2016 after 29 years living in the USA and simply turned up with our British passports, stayed with friends for a couple of weeks while finalizing a rental house etc. Our son did the same thing 15 months later and he didn’t even have a NI number or British driving licence as he was only 4 when we moved to the USA.
The only paperwork we completed was after we were here, registering to vote, registering with the NHS, replacing our old British licence with the new picture id version, etc.

Re: moving back question
When we moved back after retirement in 2015 after a total of 38 years working abroad, the immigration control bloke at Edinburgh airport looked at our UK passports and asked if we'd had a nice holiday. "Err, yes" I said.
