Re: Books

Spain by Jan Morris is a superb travel book set in the 70's and 80's. I love her writing and it's not full of endless pages about churches. I loathed Iberia by James Mitchener. I've tried Don...

Re: Bank account non resident

I haven't used it for direct debits but I thought that this could be done. I now have Transferwise debit card which is useful when I'm in the UK. They have an office in London so give them a call.

Re: Where not?

At your age you need to consider healthcare, even if your health is good. My experience in Gandia has been that while the level of care in the local hospital is good and that some of the doctors...

Re: La Caixa Bank

I've been with La Caixa for several years now (firstly as a non-resident) and have found them to be excellent. Their English website and phone apps are first class. If you don't yet need a Spanish...

Re: Valencia or more precisely Gandia, Piles and Olivia?

The Grau de Gandia on the south side of the port is cheaper than the north Grau and Beach area and with older properties. A working area where you won't be meeting any Brits. But you won't meet...

Re: Piles or Oliva Valencia?

The various beach areas from Gandia down to Oliva are completely dead out of season. I have heard that Oliva has a problem with burglary. Worth checking out.

Re: Learning Spanish

I've tried several 'apps' and other courses and I find Mondly to be the easiest way to learn. I've been using it for 4 months now.

Re: Spanish Language Apps

I bought Total Spanish with Michel Thomas a few years ago but it was rather complicated for a beginner and expensive. I've now lost it when I could probably use it. I tried Duolingo for a year but...

Unhappy Spanish Electrical Wiring

I live in a 70's four bedroom apartment in Gandia. It is mostly original and I want to renovate soon (on a very limited budget) starting with the Kitchen. But I've just checked the electrical...

Re: Thinking of buying a property in Spain

Your budget is the first step. Prices in Spain can be as low as 30,000 euros for a 1 Bed and for 125,000 you can be in a villa just outside of a town. The best property search website is Property...
