Re: Advice on where to live in Brisbane

North Lakes is probably the suburb with the biggest ex-pat community, but not great for travelling into the CBD (city centre). Another thing to consider is where you end up working - not all jobs are...

Re: Best areas of Brisbane to live in or Gold Coast?

Spring Hill is a bit seedy in places, thanks to the strip clubs / girlie bars. Close to the CBD, so very handy if you work round there. Less than 10mins walk to Fortitude Valley for restaurants, bars...

Re: London Mayor

To all those who voted for Boris Johnson, I hope they get what they deserve. I only hope he doesn't screw up London in the meantime.

Ken Livingstone has always been passionate about London, and...

Re: Anyone moved from Brisbane to Melbourne?

I moved from Sydney to Brisbane, after 3.5 years in Sydney. For me, it was the right thing to do (for now). I'd recommend a similar course of action if Brisbane isn't doing it for you - try somewhere...

Re: Brisbane Weekend

1. Yep, I would be up for a threesome (or more, indeed)
2. I was cruelly mocked for drinking cider the other day (by the lovely in-laws)
3. Where did you go to be kicked out at 9.37 pm?
4....

Re: Brisbane Weekend

Hello Sandra! I was in Miro's on Sunday night guzzling sangria (mmmmm), it gets my vote too

Bustling Sydney? Or chilled-out Brisbane? Are you sure you won't be tempted to stay? ;)

Re: Moving to Sydney in the next 6 weeks?

I'm bumping this one because they live in a lovely complex and the car was Katherinious' other half's pride and joy :D

If we were still in Sydney, we'd have that furniture off of you. The in laws...

Re: London VS Sydney

Up until four years ago, I lived in London, then moved to Sydney where I lived for 3 years before moving to Brisbane.

The decision to move to Brisbane / QLD was partly based on concerns about the...

Re: House Prices Down under-another thread..

Just had a call from the real estate agent seeing if we had made our final offer on the house (we had) - someone else has out bid us - I can't see any sign yet of a slowing housing market :(

Re: One for the ladies (bra's in Brisbane)

There's a shop called All about Eve on Adelaide St in the CBD - they stock Australian and UK / US brands including swimwear in a good range of sizes. Buying imported products isn't cheap but sure...

Re: Container Insurance: Anyone claimed

We insured with Lettoon Pecival, much more reasonable than Allied Pickfords, and glad we did as we had to claim for about 10% of the goods we shipped over (well, meant to ship over - who knows where...

Re: House Prices Down under-another thread..

We're looking in Brisbane, the market is still very hot if it's a good property. Five offers before the first open for inspection on a house we looked at on Saturday. We made an offer too, but the...

Re: Recruitment agencies in Sydney

Easy to get a job in HR? Yes, especially if you specialise in learning and development. Very much a growth market over here. There's low unemployment and a skills shortage in Australia, so you should...

Re: ANY POMS IN GREENBANK AREA/CARINDALE AREA

Re: real estate websites? looking for a house

Because there's a high demand for rentals in most cities at the moment, a lot of places don't even get advertised online. I used to find the best way to find out about rentals was to phone up real...

Re: Weather on the Sunshine Coast-advice please

I'm enjoying it too. The garden loves it. I'm hoping there will be lots more this summer, and then autumn will be green and lush going into the dry season.
I baked over Christmas in Adelaide, when...
