Re: Recommendations : Eating Out / take Away
Queensland eateries are fairly ordinary compared to NSW and Victoria. Italian consists of pizza and boring pastas. No gnocchi or risotto. Chinese is ok, and there's a great takeaways in Aspley. The Curry Bowl in Kawana does excellent Indian food.

Trixy:
I spent 3 years in Sydney before moving to Brisbane, and have found the quality similar in both cities (when world-class restaurants - of which Brisbane is lacking being a much smaller and less developed place - are excluded; and I never fancied Tetsuya's degustation menu anyway).
Vim:
Re Pineapple - I was surprised myself at how nice my meal was, I wasn't expecting it at all! Most of the things I've heard about the Story Bridge have been positive, so I'm going to give it another go and not base my opinion entirely on the dodgy xmas meal I had.

Best Indian: Tandoor (commercial road, melbourne) is both restaurant and takeaway, the owner is fantastic and the food is great. It's a bit of a worry though that when we walk in the guys know what drinks and starters to bring us
Another good one is the one owned by a british guy in Adelaide but I can't remember what it's called now. Great, truly british, brummy curries.
Finally, the curry club on Bridge Road in Richmond. Not the one in South Melbourne.
Best Chinese: Dragon Boat in chinatown, Melbourne. Not really really great, but good food, reasonable price, and big, so you'll always get a seat. Not sure if they do takeaway or not.
Best Family Restaurant: When I get a family, I'll comment!! But possibly La Porchetta?
Best seafood: Nobu on Southbank in Melbourne, also seeeeriously expensive. Belgian Beer Cafe for mussels, every time.
Best Budget: Not sure - there's a lot of good places in Melbourne, particularly asian. Try bridge road for some good vietnamese, but I can't remember any names.
Best expensive: Tram Restaurant, Melbourne. Or Nobu.
Best fish & chips: Trawler's Catch, Punt Rd, Melbourne. Takeaway only. HUGE portions of chips with stuff - only get one between 2 or 3. All freshly cooked, very good quality.
Or the one on the pier in Fremantle, Cicerellos. Very good, and right on the sea too.

Some of the best restaurants I've tried have been in Auckland, NZ. Italian is wonderful in Melbourne but I honestly felt deprived trying to find some decent nosh in Brisbane. After many years I think my taste buds and standards have just dumbed down to RSL fare.. which is pretty good!

Yeah I do like a bit of cod or haddy! I guess I always think of seafood as prawns, lobsters etc, rather than fish.

hey Vim, have you ever been to the jubilee before, up near RNA showgrounds? Only been the once, but the steak there was great. We won a voucher for a free meal there....its the kind of pub that you'd go past and think "looks a bit dodgy"...and it is. But the people in there were bloody friendly to me & the wife, we couldn't believe it !
all sorts of interesting characters in there...
