The visa being valid for 5 years (or whatever) means that you can use it to travel to the USA during that period of time.

The number of entries dictates how many times you can use it to travel to...

Visas involving a waiver of ineligibility are never issued for 10 years. Five is the maximum with a waiver, and it seems to be the case that the overwhelming majority are issued for that duration...

So the previous convictions made you ineligible for ESTA? Were they crimes of moral turpitude or similar offences?

Just asking, because drink driving on its own would not be cause to fall foul of...

Why were you applying for a B visa? Do you have other convictions apart from the drink driving that made you ineligible for ESTA for example?
