Re: Shippers coming for a quote

Sorry to jump in slightly off topic, but - make sure you've got your camera when they're unloading at the NZ end.

Movecorp - they were the cheapest so we got what we paid for and it was a big...

Re: Storm

You've just taken me back to my childhood, my dad was from Glasgow and he used to make us beef burger sandwiches for breakfast, he'd fry them and call them BBQ.

It's still my comfort food of...

Re: To those people missing Blighty or thinking of a return......

For our situation I think you're absolutely spot on here. The cost of living is higher and it's tougher on a low salary especially with the high cost of food, but if you're prepared for that and have...

Re: Shipping a car less than 12 months old

Before you pay to import the car, it might be worth doing some searches to find the actual cost of servicing/repairs and parts for your specific make and model.

We've had friends very badly stung...

Re: Why move to NZ instead of Oz??

Driving back from work is a nightmare in the holiday season because the tourists will have been drinking in the day, and they're just stupid by 5pm. Jump in the cars and drive to get more sausages or...

Re: dentifying a leaky house without a survey? for rental purposes

Thank you so much for this. We're living in a cave disguised as a 90s brick and tile house, and collectively we've had more sick days in the last 9 months than in the last 20 years.

Having never...

Re: Papamoa/Mount Meet Up!

Thanks for organising this, life's been crazy/mad and I've only just found the thread - been having a month long blond moment

I think we'll be there, but I'm job sharing and there's a...

Re: Tauranga - Help please

Absolutely agree with this, especially if you can get close to/within walking distance of both the main beach and a good cup of coffee.

If your budget allows then Down Town The Mount or Marine...

Re: Why move to NZ instead of Oz??

If my tone in here is ever snippy - it's not intentional, I type faster than I think and it's not the same as sitting face to face and chatting.

We've got guests over this evening and I'm having...

Re: dentifying a leaky house without a survey? for rental purposes

Bo Jangles has already answered with regard to the actual leaky home thing, but if you're simply looking for a rental to live in - I would keep the following in mind based on our experiences:

Go...

Re: Why move to NZ instead of Oz??

We also looked at schools in Christchurch - they've got a fantastic reputation. It's only the job offer that caused us to come here. Hope if you're still in CHch, everything is working out for you...

Re: Why move to NZ instead of Oz??

We have 2 sets of friends from Queensland and they laugh at my fear of things that can eat me.

When we lived in the tropics we never had carpets - always white tiled floors and a night light...

Re: Why move to NZ instead of Oz??

There are lots of reasons why things are more expensive here, they're logical and they make sense - but ultimately, doesn't matter if you understand them or not - you have to balance the books at the...

Re: Why move to NZ instead of Oz??

We fell in love with NZ years ago and had never been to Oz. We were always saving so hard, we never spent the money on a trip to Oz because the cost was so high we thought the money would be better...

Re: Monthly family expenses - Food

You don't need a lot of space, if you go to Bunnings or Mitre 10 - the people who work in the garden centres are brilliant and will point you in the right direction with regard to preparing your...

Re: Monthly family expenses - Food

Re: 'Jobs for Kiwi's'

Often though, in order to get PR - you have to take a job that the kiwis won't touch. Either because the work is so awful that they don't want it, or because the salary is so low that they're all in...

Re: Older Teenager with mild/moderate learning difficulties: Help for her to intergra

You're welcome, they're not equine snobs here either which is fantastic.

They'll have the hats to borrow and so long as you make sure she's got some long trousers so that the stirrups don't rub -...

Re: Monthly family expenses - Food

Oh wow, that's worth knowing - thank you! I think with the doctors fee being $35 a trip - if it's for coughs & colds we just bite the bullet and self medicate.

Next time we go for anything else...

Re: Rethink?

No, in fact the lack of crime/looting and the way people have just opened their doors to each other has confirmed that coming here to raise the children was the best think we ever did.

I know...

Don't be put off by it - just hit the ground running and be prepared from the beginning.

Food is definitely cheaper in UK without a doubt - there are a variety of reasons as to why but TBH - it's...

Re: Monthly family expenses - Food

We've always had free range eggs and we've found a cafe in town that sells them a lot cheaper than the supermarkets. They're twice the size and they make the loveliest cakes and sauces.

We're...
