Re: Sydney house prices worse than London

Yeah Camberwell really isn't a nice area at all to live in and thus the house prices won't be all that reflective of other, more in-demand areas, where you'd be paying a heck of a lot more (try...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

This sort of anecdotal 'evidence' is pointless - just because you, personally, happen to know people in either country that do or don't have jobs really doesn't say anything about the overall...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Although the comparative areas you're talking about are much smaller - the £25 travelcard allows you unlimited travel but only in zones 1 and 2, which extends about 6 miles from Picadilly Circus in...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Haha, snap - I lived by Wandsworth Town train station for a few months, which I think was a stop after Putney. It was definitely the most stressful journey into work I've had in London. It really...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Lol, maybe your idea of fun is different to others!! I used to live in Clapham and took the Northern line every day - it was so awful that, when I moved, I made sure I didn't live anywhere where I'd...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Yes, I love London too, I've lived here for six yrs and have enjoyed (most of) it! But it does have an expiry date for some people (including me) and I think that mine is approaching...it's just...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

True although the focus of these rankings is not on 'where would individual people want to live' - it is to give companies a guide as to how much allowances (especially for 'hardship') they should...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

It's important to remember that this is only a snapshot of the full rankings and so only shows the top 50 cities, whereas the full survey ranks 420 cities in total. There are seven US cities in the...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

There is minimal difference. If you look at the top 10 cities, they only vary by 2.3 points.

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

It's interesting that Canada totally dominates the North American city rankings, far more so than the US cities - I'd definitely like to visit Vancouver!

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Actually, Australia's done really well - six cities in the top 40 in the world, pretty impressive. And it's great that a big company like Mercer is recognising that as people (and companies) will...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Yes, sorry - I was referring to the comment that 'Europe' did better when actually it wasn't Europe as a whole but just two countries in Europe (as well as Vienna, which was number one!).

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

So say Germany and Switzerland. Europe's a big place.

Vancouver, Auckland and Sydney were all in the top 10. I'm actually quite surprised London did SO badly (I thought it would maybe be in the...

Re: Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Well, actually it's mainly just Switzerland and Germany that did 'better'.

Smile Sydney and Melbourne in top 20 best cities in the world

Australia has done really well in Mercer's new Quality of Living (http://www.mercer.com/qualityoflivingpr#City_Ranking_Tables) rankings with six cities in the top 50.

Sydney is 10th,...

Re: cheapest way to fly: Sydney or Brisbane

Hiya. :)
My kneejerk reaction would be that Sydney would be cheaper to fly into, mainly because it's a bigger city and probably has more flights/airlines and thus more competition. However, you...
