Re: does anyone actually not miss their family back home ? ;)

i also find it very stressful when going back home to fit everyone in, everyone wants us to visit them and stay for longer and if you miss anyone out you get talked about :sneaky:

Re: does anyone actually not miss their family back home ? ;)

I'm with you. I miss my family so much it hurts. I guess it depends on the relationships you had before you moved over. I have one son, 3 sisters, 4 nieces and a bucket load of great-nieces/nephews....

Re: My son and his lost/stolen passport

Thanks for the two suggestions!

Coming in to Vancouver always works best for my visitors as they prefer to leave from Gatwick - and for us we have Nexus so can be at the airport in less than an...

My son and his lost/stolen passport

My son, who is 25, lost his passport in 2010. He got another passport and came over last March via Canada. At the US border he was questioned for ages. He was asked all about why he was refused an...

Re: Las Vegas help

Some friends of ours did the same at Caesar's Palace and got upgraded to a suite! They slid $20 for theirs! They told me to try the same when I went later that year but it just felt rather shifty -...

Re: Las Vegas help

Vegas.com is actually very reasonable. I have stayed at the Luxor twice and actually preferred being away from the bustle - and there aren't the naked cards being thrust in your face down that end...

Re: My mum is losing her fight...when to go?

Just want to add my twopenneth, Dan.. so sorry to hear what you're going through. Seems like everyone has advised you - and you have decided what you are going to do. You are experiencing what we all...

Re: Christmas cards - on the way out?

I hear you. It is as if I never existed - or as if my "friends" can't be bothered to go to a Post-Office and get their card weighed to send here!

I have noticed Americans just aren't in to...

Re: The Bachelor - 2012

I watched it, but I don't like him much.
"Reality Steve" showed a video Ben had made - quite awful, surprised he's able to be on TV if he makes videos like it!
I wasn't really impressed with...

Re: Rant about British Airways!!

I have actually found BA to be quite good. We like direct flights and BA and Air-Canada are the only two who offer it for my area. I felt Air-Canada let us down badly the first time we flew and...

Re: The Christmas what do you miss thread

I used to do that! It was at a time when you didn't have Netflix and On Demand and huge vudeo libraries, so seeing their big Christmas fortnight of films was great fun! And of course, you can't...

Re: This thought of moving back to the UK is visiting me more often again...

My sister was married to an alcoholic and he beat the living daylights out of her everytime he was drunk, yet you couldn't meet a nicer guy sober. It is an awful thing. My uncle was also so bad that...

Re: The X Factor!

Very, very funny! I loved where you said Nicole got on your last nerve! Very good.
I like Drew, but she looks so young and vulnerable. I agree though that this age is too young. I always cringed...

Re: Would you do it again?

I'm undecided. Came here to marry an American. He had a very good job, elderly mother and was a grandfather. I was in a better position to move, so this direction made sense.
However beautiful this...

Re: From Manchester to California? I need your help Expats!

I was told by a policeman here who went on a body language course that those questions are meant to get the reaction my son obviously made, like wtf are you talking about?
I went to your link, very...

Re: The Christmas what do you miss thread

Over the years you start getting used to the American Christmas, but fortunately I have introduced a lot of our traditions here. Thankfully I can now get crackers from Costco, (when I first mentioned...

Re: From Manchester to California? I need your help Expats!

My husband and I did that whole dating across the Atlantic thing for two years, I came here every six months and he came to UK every six months. We spent a fortune on air-fares and phone calls. The...

Re: Leaving in 5 days... terrible cold feet.

I will just add my twopenneth. I do think there are so many Brits over here who do not come onto this website, or have even tried to find an expats website because they LOVE their life here and don't...

Re: Any Brit's in or near Seattle, WA?

Hi Char,
Wherabouts are you exactly? You have come to the Seattle part, so I'm guessing you have to be too - but it is a big place. You should introuduce yourself on the introductions page of this...

I think the OP said her husband drank loads of coffee in the morning. I get the impression these things are not good for people who drink a lot to get them moving, but rather the one off - and...

Re: genral cost of living in the USA compared to the UK

I agree with Penguinsix, the cost of living can vary so dramatically from one state to the other and even on one item to another. Groceries balance themselves out, you get good things, cheap deals -...

Re: Where can I buy an advent calender?

Bit late to this thread - as always - but I'm with Poppygirl, every shop around here seems to have them. In Walmart they are called Countdown to Christmas - and not Advent, which ticks me off, but in...
