The reason we were looking at the Luxor is that she is getting married only a block or so away from there at the Little Wedding Chapel.

When we stayed in the Luxor it was in the pyramid rather than the tower. Just been discussing it and now they are wondering about New York, New York.

I stayed in the MGM once also, and I wasnt particularly impressed with it as we had a crap room about three miles from reception

Will she be walking to the chapel or going in a limo? if she'll be arriving in a limo, it doesn't matter if she's 1 block or 10 away.

Be aware that if you book through booking agencies like vegas.com as we did you will more than likely be shoved in a 'not so great' room, or a room waiting to be refurbished. This was right from the managements mouth at the Flamingo. We were told outright the only way to get a pool or strip view in a refurbished room is to use the hotels on website.
Also check out trip advisor before you book the Luxor, we heard quite a few complaints about it along with Circus Circus and Stratosphere.

NY NY/Excaliber/Treasure Island IMO are more of a kids themed hotel. I wouldn't stay in those and certainly not Circus Circus, Stratosphere or MGM.

I stayed in the Luxor, the Bellagio and what is now Hooters (can't remember what it was back when I was there). Wouldn't necessarily recommend Hooters for a wedding part obviously lol, but the Luxor was ok and the Bellagio great.

I found that going to their own website and registering with them got you deals as good as you could find of the travel sites. Oh and if you decide on the Bellagio there is a little tip for getting upgrades - then again might work for any hotel.

When checking in discreetly show a $5 or $10 and say you are there for a special occasion and is there anything they can do to make it even more special ..... hopefully they won't flick a little card at your face ...... at the Bellagio I smarmyed up to a charming young fella and with $20 (split between four of us) we got a room right in the middle with the best fountain view, plus line passes for any of the restaurants!

FatWallet has a pretty good thread going that summarizes all the current promo codes etc. We got around 30% off at the Bellagio last time we went via a code found on there.

As you're not going until November - you'll find lots of the promos run 60-90 days ahead so not available now for then. Book a cancellable room now at the best rate you can find on the hotel's website, and then keep checking back for promos, cancelling and rebooking each time you find a price drop. That way at least you'll have the comfort of knowing you have a room saved but also have the benefit of snapping up the best deal when it comes along.

Some friends of ours did the same at Caesar's Palace and got upgraded to a suite! They slid $20 for theirs! They told me to try the same when I went later that year but it just felt rather shifty - and knowing my luck we'd get some rude response! Still, if you aren't afraid of trying, that is always worth a try!

We went to Vegas for Christmas and stayed at the Bellagio. My sister stayed somewhere off strip called the Platinum suites which were lovely and my FIL and his wife stayed at New York New York which they loved and it was fantasic value for money, I think only about $100 a night. Luxor was looking a bit tired to me and I don't think it would be my choice.

Somebody mentioned the buffet dinners earlier. Every day we looked at the queue for the Bellagio buffet in wonder, it was miles long, I heard people could be queuing for two hours! We were not tempted to try it out but that must be one hell of a buffet!

We stayed at the Paris for Christmas. It's a good location I though, and we had a nice room with a view of the Bellagio fountains and the 'Eiffel Tower'. The line for the Village Buffet there was huge, but from reading other posts above, perhaps that's normal. We mainly stuck to a quick slice of pizza in the day, and something higher end for dinner.

The Luxor that's the one I had the alarm go off in the middle of the night and had to evacuate the building, then the 2nd night the phone went at just past midnight asking for Mrs Robinson
Its got amazing bathrooms but the wing I was staying in, wish I could remember which one it was, was nasty and run down the bedroom was like it had seen better days carpet was tatty the beds were damp and thin cheap sheets, the wardrobe and drawers were chipped and old.

One of my boss's always stays at the New York New York he loves it there...personally I would go for the Mandalay Bay as JG said its next to the Luxor but there is the little train that connects you all the way to the bridge then you walk over and straight in to the New York New York they are all so close it not worth worrying about in my opinion.

I stay at Paris, Bellagio or the Venetian. I've yet to stay at Wynne but that's the one folks are saying is the nicest now (and pricey). Recently I stayed at Red Rocks (way off the Strip) and I've also stayed at Suncoast where I got a 2-br suite for the price of a small room on the strip.

If she really wants to save money, get married on a Tuesday or something. Weekend rates are quite a bit higher than mid-week rates, and if you are all coming over from the UK it's not like you 'need' to be on a Saturday or something.
