Re: Quake warning for the north island?

AFAIK, there's currently no way of predicting an earthquake so as Persephone said, the best we all can do is to be prepared and continue living . Hubby's involved in USAR and I'm involved in civil...

Re: 6.3 quake reported in Christchurch?

I struggle to find words to say how sorry I am. My deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you as with others similarly touched by the tragedy.

Re: Dog - Germany - UK - NZ

OK, then I won't be able to help, sorry. But I know there are rules how long the animals must have been in one country before it can be exported using that country's rules, i.e. any animal exported...

Re: Dog - Germany - UK - NZ

Hi,
I'm a bit confused by the topic of your thread: are you moving from the UK after having lived in Germany OR are you moving directly from Germany to NZ? If the latter, I might be able to answer...

Re: 6.3 quake reported in Christchurch?

There was just an extra newsflash on TV and the breaking news banner says all phone lines in CHCH are down. Magniture confirmed to be 6.3, 10 km from ChCh, depth only 5 km. Apparently the cathedral...

Re: Just a little heads up for the unaware..

Yeah, the quarantine for UK animals is a bit strange, but as the proposal says that they're pretty much giving up any rabies -based quarantine period (or at least that's how I understand it), I guess...

Re: Just a little heads up for the unaware..

Thanks for the info, Stacey! As someone who imported pets from outside the UK and had to jump through numerous hoops to get them here (and then have them quarantined for a month), a more streamlined...

AFAIK: IELTS is only required for people who are not native speakers of English or if they work in certain professions (healthcare etc). Since Miss Marple is from the UK and works in procurement, I...

Re: Flights to UK

As someone posted in another thread, Jetstar is currently selling tickets really cheaply. I took a look at the offers, and for example for July, it seems to be possible to get return tickets from...

Re: Cheap flights to OZ...

I checked the Jetstar sale offers, and found that for example for in July, it's possible to get a return flight from Wellington to Singapore via Auckland for about 850 NZD (seat, cabin luggage +20 kg...

Re: Can I apply...for skilled migrataion in NZ ..Please give sugession

AFAIK, the forum in question didn't charge any money towards the advice, so free/fee wasn't an issue. Nor did the blog. It was precisely the nature of the advice, i.e. direct, detailed advice aimed...

Re: Can I apply...for skilled migrataion in NZ ..Please give sugession

Informal/general yes, specific, no. :) If you read my second sentence, you see that I was referring to the OP's question of whether he should apply or not and to his requests of giving specific...

Re: Can I apply...for skilled migrataion in NZ ..Please give sugession

Ishshor: It is against NZ law to offer any specific immigration advice for anyone else without being a qualified and registered immigration agent/lawyer. Nobody here can say you whether you should...

Re: Heading back to the uk with the dog?! Help!

Well, that's actually Britain's own rule... ;) Almost anywhere else in the EU a pet coming from NZ would only need a rabies vaccination to be done 21 days before leaving -no test, no waiting period...

Re: Decile school ratings

My friend is a teacher in a fairly affluent suburb, (decile 9), and she's strogly against using the decile system as a basis for classing schools into "good" and "bad" schools as it's no guarantee...

I have not claimed that in any of my posts. Please read my posts again. I have requested respect towards other people's beliefs and culture, whether it involves religion -or not. A belief is anything...

Re: For an apparently westernised country - how can this be acceptable?

We are still talking about sacred objects used in sacred ceremonies -not about teacups and saucers. I'm fairly sure that most religions have rules on how such objects should be handled, and...

Re: For an apparently westernised country - how can this be acceptable?

Ultimately all religions and belief systems are just beliefs. This doesn't mean that they're not real for those people involved, and thus I very strongly feel that their beliefs should be respected,...
