Thanks for the replies. In the end my dearly beloved chose staying in one nice hotel in London for the entire time and had the meetings moved to the Basingstoke office.

Next time the whole family...

1957 news footage of Brits emigrating to Canada

I enjoyed this and thought I'd post it.

Filmed at a time when the Canadian Govt was so desperate for British migrants it organised airlifts.

The questions in this forum about taxes and...

Re: Immigrating in late 40's to Alberta

On a lighter note, I opened this thread Immigrating in late 40's to Alberta thinking it was about someone who had emigrated to Alberta in the late 1940s......

Re: Top 5 things about Canada

I agree with 1, 3, and 5. For 2 I'd say easier access to higher education (left school in 1979 with 2 CSEs..now have a degree gained in Toronto) and 4 is proximity to the USA which I love.

6. Is...

Re: Conservative anti-immigrant ad

This post is way too left wing for me to reply politely. Keep the politics off this site. Why not just go bore your friends (if you have any) in a pub with this stuff. There's enough arguing on this...

Smile Re: Any Ontario Police

I live in Agincourt but I always thought it a bit snooty to refer to it that way. I always associate it with people whose families were here before it turned into a suburb. Usually on paperwork for...

Thumbs up Re: 1987 migrant to Toronto mystified by talk of "swapping" UK licence.

I did take the test in 1989 and even was mentioned for a rolling stop at a STOP sign but still passed. The test must have been the only option. I don't recall even considering any other possibility....

1987 migrant to Toronto mystified by talk of "swapping" UK licence.

I have to ask. I have read many times in this forum about people swapping their UK licence for a Canadian one. What's the point? What is gained? Are we obligated (in Ontario) to swap? For example,...

We used to live on Church Road near a cinema and close to the water. I have no idea if the cinema (one of the old fashioned big screen ones) is still there. We moved to England in the Summer of 76.
