Conservative anti-immigrant ad
#1

Hi folks,
I've generally tried to keep politics well clear of my efforts to help other immigrants through this forum and others, although as many of you know I spend most of my time doing advocacy work on environmental issues. Today I'm going to make a brief exception to that, as I think this is too important not to share with this community...
This Conservative Party ad is airing only in Quebec, where anti-immigrant sentiments are stronger than elsewhere in Canada. It is one of the most offensive pieces of revolting, toxic propaganda I have ever seen from a mainstream party in a democratic country:

I'm a strong believer in our obligations to care for those fleeing persecution. Canada's refugee protection system certainly isn't perfect, but it is recognised world wide as a shining example of many of the ways to do things right.
I don't care how you plan to vote on May 2nd (if you can even vote at all) but please consider sharing this with your immigrant friends and loved ones so that all Canadians can make up their minds knowing what the man who wants unchecked power really thinks about immigrants.

Thx for sharing
It's targeted toward illegal immigration/human smugglers?
If you're going the right way, there's nothing to be afraid of

Forums are for a variety of views not just your own. Remember that and don't be so rude.

Who rattled your cage and made you the forum gestappo?

This post is way too right wing for me to reply politely. Keep it off this site. Why not just go bore your friends (if you have any) in a pub with this stuff. There's enough arguing on this site without you and your right-wing crud added to the mix.
Or just as intolerant?

It's not an anti immigration ad. It's anti human trafficking and illegal immigration, I don't see much wrong with that.

Not wanting to stir trouble, but this post by the OP could even be seen to be encouraging illegal entry to Canada...

Me too. I thought the ad was carefully worded (assuming the translation was accurate) to make it clear it was about illegal immigration and people trafficking not legal migrants. I would rather hope that anyone who'd been through the hassle and expense of moving to Canada legally might be against those things as well.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but do you folk think it's OK to associate very distorted images of Ignatieff and Duceppe with photo-montages of human trafficking?
What next, aborted foetuses in a bloody bucket?
