Re: do you hate vancouver this much?

Jesus, where do you work? I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me that there were 22 Jamaicans in the GVRD !! Anyhow's most people from the Caribbean seem to choose Toronto if moving to Canada.

Re: do you hate vancouver this much?

Vancouver's a perfectly nice city, but one who's reputation is a bit over-inflated and reliant on the lovely scenery.

For me, it is a relaxed city for it's size with great access to the outdoors,...

Re: British kids V Aussie kids.

Agree with that 100%. The UK is extremely diverse and there are an amazing number of areas/towns which are great places to live (obviously property prices/employment comes into play). Sure there are...

Re: Citizenship question

I too am applying for citizenship (believe it or not!). I had to provide details of my absences from Canada. I put a note with the dates stating that to the best of my knowledge they are correct as...

Re: Location, location, location

The crowdedness of the UK worries me too, but there are advantages to that (competition for services, access to loads of places to visit easily). Thing is that in Canada almost everyone lives in...

Re: Is moving back to the UK the right move.

This post really resonated with me. I almost could have written it !! I too moved to Canada for reasons other than a love of the place. It's nice enough, but it does absolutely nothing for me. If I...

Re: Crime in your area

By and large there does seem to be less chav-related petty stuff. I know that this thread is about personal experiences in your area, but the other thread was about crime rates and some people...

Re: Crime in your area

This subject ran on another thread a fair while back. The murder/homicide rate in Canada is nearly twice what it is in the UK. But some people on here wouldn't buy it and were stating that...

Re: Crime in your area

I hold the view that crimes rates are fairly similar between the UK & Canada. The type of crime appears to be different with certain areas of the UK suffering from anti-social type crime, which...

Re: CENSUS 2011

Re: CENSUS 2011

We got the short one in the mail. Very quick to complete. I was very perplexed by the first main question being 'does anyone in your household produce agricultural products such as eggs, furs, sod...

Re: British Columbia or Alberta

I was trying to offer the OP advice and then you came along and dismissed what I had to say without offering any facts in support of your argument. I offer the said facts in support of my argument...

Re: British Columbia or Alberta

I know what you're getting at, but not everyone has the ultimate freedom to chose where they wish to live. I prefer sunny, hot weather, but when I met my Vancouver born wife to be, I was hardly going...

Re: British Columbia or Alberta

TBH, I can't be bothered any more. No matter what facts are presented, you won't change your mind. I'll stick with the facts presented earlier, as I think they are fair reflection of reality. You...

Re: Vancouver homes pricier than London

IMO: the following are all factors:

- Nearly everything is made in China, huge boom in economy, property market etc. Also very corrupt. There is a reason why so many want to get their money out of...

Re: British Columbia or Alberta

Well Brits have always had an obssession with weather, wouldn't you say? IMO, I would say that 6m of rain or -40c temperatures, need coping techniques beyond wearing the right coat. Everyone's...

Re: British Columbia or Alberta

Not sure how you've proved it there, but I'll attempt to.

My reading of these average conditions (Van & London) is that Vancouver is sunnier (mainly in summer), but gets almost 3 times as much...

Re: It's a police state... well, in mission, BC

It's scandalous really. How on earth did they think that it'd survive a legal challenge, I do not know. The approach seems to be pretty scattergun, i.e. fine anyone who might look guilty rather than...

Re: British Columbia or Alberta

With OP's hubbies trade, I would say Alberta is an absolute no-brainer IMO. If I were you I'd go to AB, make some money, take some trips to BC/Vancouver and see how you feel over time.

BTW, there...

Re: Now you live in Canada ...

People in the UK complain about the cost of a TV licence, but I think once you've come to somewhere like Canada and see their free to air offerings, basic cable, or even everything available - paying...

Re: To those who have moved back, whats it really like ?

The olde chestnut of thread drift. Still, I'm going back to the UK in a few weeks (just a visit mind). I shall report my findings upon my return. That's my effort of getting the thread back on track.

Re: Sick of canada

I agree with this too. I sometimes wonder if I'd be happier elsewhere in Canada as well, but the distances are too great and I don't have the heart to drag the family away from their roots here just...
