Hi obviously we are in the early stages of emmigrating but im a tad confused on where we would like to settle
My hubby is an industrial electrician so on one side Alberta seems the best bet with the oil industries etc. But i love B.C, I know its more expensive there but by how much? As im to understand the houses in Alberta are really dear to rent/buy? There is so much confliciting information on the internet!! It would be nice to hear from those who maybe has experienced one or the other or even better, both???
Sorry if this is a silly question, i did use the search function but couldnt find anything
Thanks Guys x

Houses in Vancouver will likely be more expensive than in Oyen; houses in Calgary will likely be more expensive than in Prince George.
You are talking about a huge area.

Not too sure on B.C, although Victoria looks beautiful but i dont think we'd be able to live there on hubby's money from what i've read lol. Im looking (personally) for somewhere with a beautiful scenery when i look out each morning bearing in mind im going to be stuck in twiddling my thumbs while everyones at school/work (heaven lol) So if anyone can point me in a beautiful direction in B.C i'd be grateful too

1 Get a job and find the best place to live within commuting distance or
2 Decide where you want to live and make the most of the employment opportunities available locally.
If you don't decide on one or the other you will go round in circles.

Yeah I would say Victoria isn't the best option, looks good to begin with but it's a pretty small place.
Basically it depends on whether you prefer being wet or whether you prefer being cold. Or you can split the difference and move to Kelowna, where you can be on fire instead...
Cost of living is a bit lower in Alberta overall than BC. Obviously if you live in the middle of downtown Vancouver it's going to be expensive (and cramped).
You'll see articles about the "high cost of living" in places like Calgary but these are written by Canadians who are comparing with other places in Canada, and it's based mostly on house prices anyway imx. If you can afford a place to live in Calgary, other expenses are generally less or a lot less, depending on what it is.

Devon and the Lake District are nice, not forgetting the Cotswolds.

How important to you is lifestyle? What is your current lifestyle? How do you hope to live once in Canada? Do you expect to live similarly to how you do right now in England?

In short i would like to go to Canada for a better life without worrying about my kids being mugged outside my house. Give them the opportunities that myself and my husband never had, clean air and clean living in a beautiful country

And to be honest no i dont expect to live similarly in Canada as we would have to start from scratch and build our way up to where we are now, but i would like that opportunity to try before we are all too old
My husband and son are ice hockey players and thats another strong reason for the hubby and son

Hi Matt/Tasha
We are also in the early stages of a move, although we've been at this stage a couple of times in the last 15 years, lol.
The main thing you're going to get hit with on this tread is going to be how equally bad it can be in Canada, in terms of cost of living and crime etc.
If you just tell people "we fancy a change" things will go much better, lol.
From what we have researched so far, your standard of living, and life style should be similar, or slightly better. This completely depends on you and your partner's skill-sets, and how "in demand" they are in the particular area you are planning on moving to.
My wife is in Engineering/systems management, so Victoria would not be ideal for us. South of Toronto on the other hand has many industrial areas which require her experience.
Now before I get jumped on for limiting Canada to two small areas, it's all about getting your foot in the door. If once settled we decide we'd like to try a different part of the continent, then it's much easier to do from over there than over here.
But I'll tell you this. Once you get the dream in your head, it never goes away, so you may as well give it a go while you still have all your hair and both your hips

Hi ya, lifestyle is important, we live quite comfortably at the moment. We have a 5 bed semi (extended 3 bed) which is lovely but stuck in the middle of an up and coming chavvy place haha. Fed up with having my car vandalized, my 8 year old at the time kids bikes nicked from their hands by a 27 year old man......shocking i know. I know you get crime wherever you go but its just getting silly here. Generally the schools near here are not too bad but could be better. Fed up with being treated like a second rate citizen when things got tough for us a few years back, no-one interested in helping us etc.
