Re: Just Venting - Will we ever make it home?

Hmm. Can't offer advice on most of this. But read with sympathy.

Just one thing to offer. Getting animals into the UK became a whole lot easier this year. No six month quarantine, no titer test....

Re: Flying to UK with 4 pets and need advice please

As Bluegrass Lass indicates the rules for animal importation to the UK have changed recently. I'd advise you ring Defra and ask for advice. For a government department they are remarkably helpful I...

Re: Ladyhaye - taking the cat back to the UK from Canada

The main reason Ladyhaye can't do it is because the airline only releases the cargo availability schedule on a monthly horizon. I had the same problem last year and couldn't confirm the cat's flight...

Re: Transporting pets through Heathrow

I don't believe there is really a huge financial advantage to doing this yourself. All animals have to enter the UK via Cargo, so it's gonna sting a little. Defra then rifle your pockets. And yes, it...

Re: Taking the cat back to the UK from Canada

Yeah, you're right the £585 was just the airfare (for two cats). The £380 was an additional charge for "airport clearance". I'd assume this charge would be £190 for one cat. If you're collecting your...

Re: Taking the cat back to the UK from Canada

Just stumbled across the bill whilst looking for something else. The actual processing fee applied at Gatwick airport was £380. My assumption is that this is Defra's cut for the disembarkation and...

Re: Taking the cat back to the UK from Canada

I've just checked the actual bill. It was £585 for them both. They flew Thomas Cook in a shared crate (this was marginally cheaper). Oh and I supplied the crate as well which reduced the bill a...

Re: Taking the cat back to the UK from Canada

I recently (in January) flew two cats back to the UK from Canada. I used Ladyhaye. I would certainly recommend them, they know the rules inside out. From recollection the cost was around £600, but...

Re: transporting dogs back from Canada to UK

Where in Canada are you? You'll find there aren't that many Canadian animal shippers who'll deal with international flights. You could try Ladyhaye (http://www.petravelagent.com/ladyhayeindex.html),...

Re: UK security clearances

I'm afraid I'll have to contradict you. The guidelines written for DVA vetting officers are not that black and white. What is actually important is how much verifiable (read UK-based) personal...

Re: UK security clearances

I don't know where you got this information from but it's utter rubbish. All that's important for a UK security clearance is where you are resident. Of course, if you were a citizen of an embargoed...

Re: moveing to u.k from usa with a dog

I agree. Not just dogs either: all animals entering the UK via air can only do so in cargo. They need to be cleared by Defra before being admitted in the UK, one way or another.

Re: Preparing our dog for travel

Have you had the titer blood test done? This is the most important part.

Re: FLYING DOG BACK TO UK FROM NS,CANADA

Does your dog have a pet passport? If he does he might be able to fly back as excess baggage, this might save you a few dollars.

My two cats fly back to the UK this week from Toronto as cargo....

Re: Help with thoughts of moving back from Canada

Maybe you should make 2011 your year and stop all this indecision. Having read some of your previous posts my basic advice to you would be to "shit or get off the pot". If you're in a position to...

Re: Work situation in the UK

I think it would be a bad idea to compare the whole of the UK's economic situation with the evidence witnessed from just the IT sector.

Personally, I don't know of any good IT people that are...

CAS at Mississauga For Outbound Pets

Re: Think long and hard, and then think again!

Many years' of study.

The ground rules for psychology are pretty sound, e.g. cognition, clinical psychology et al. However, once you get beyond the basics most of it gets a little flaky to say...

Re: Think long and hard, and then think again!

I'm sorry I can't let you get away with nonsense like this: most psychology is quackery. It certainly isn't a science. Whilst it's worthwhile consulting other peoples' opinions and experiences each...

Re: Nearly Home

Hi Newton08,

I'm in Ontario (Cambridge area). Not sure about UK customs, it did occur to me recently that anything new we've purchased in Canada might be subject to VAT. Not that I could care...

Re: Nearly Home

Couldn't agree more with the comments here. I don't need two years here to know I've made the wrong choice: three months was about it for me. For various reasons I won't be going back to the UK until...
