bewildering.. Life insurance proceeds left to a named beneficiary is classed as part of the deceased's estate. To avoid this..own the policy for your spouse.. then as owner the proceeds come to you...

Thanks both. Owen that's what I'm hoping is the correct information, nolo and another tax lawyer site says this, but on two other legal sites it says that permanent residents have the same exemption...

gosh that sounds like my grandfather - he had dementia and was terrified of fire. He used to turn off everything that had a light (including the oven when there were cakes baking), and every night...

If you're a PR or USC yes the UK State Pension has to be reported here and is fully taxable, as it isn't taxed in UK. Lines 16a and 16b on the tax form.

Work pensions are more complicated- depends...

Aint that the truth! :D I've laid down ground rules now for my kids- if they move back in again they bring ONE suitcase- everything else goes into storage(not my garage) , and they DO NOT bring...
