Default Taking dogs home

What exactly do you have to do in order to avoid your dogs going into quarantine in UK? Is having all their shots & rabies etc up to date sufficient?

If you don't want your dogs to go into quarantine then you have to start the PET travel scheme here (basically they do their quarantine here). This is what has to be done:

1. Identified with a microchip
2. Vaccinated against Rabies
3. Blood tested for rabies antibody titer
4. Pet is issued with a EU pet passport
5. Treated against ticks and tapeworms

All the information is on the following website: http://www.defra.go.uk/animalh/quara.../vets_proc.htm

The first things you need to do is get the microchip or if they have one be identified with one, have the rabies vaccine and the titer blood test then it is a matter of waiting 6 months before they can travel. Also make sure all the steps are done in the correct order so make sure the vet is familiar with the process or bring all the paperwork in for them to see it.

Our dogs just had the rabies jabs. The vet told us the jabs and blood tests are good for up to 3 years for UK travel. You have to make sure it is an AQIS vet you go to as the will know all the forms and paperwork required and answer any questions you have.

If you are having this done in the UK please ring DEFRA and check that the vet has done this correctly. We came to Canada 18 months ago and had pet passports done, our vet made a mistake and we couldn't return home with our dogs. Not only have I had to get it all redone here which has cost an absolute fortune but my dogs now can't travel. So beware don't just take your vets word for it. When you get the passports contact DEFRA your self and make sure.

I hope this helps.
