its a unit for neonates and babies with probs. we ventilate for as long as they need as this is our main role really.
alot of places transfer out if they cannot staff the babies in an intensive situation, so its not unheard of to tx out for that reason. some units will also tx out if the baby is in need of specialist treatment, from oxford or bristol. our unit will transfer out if babe needs ops as we dont operate.
special care baby unit part of the unit deals mainly with babies equivalent to your hdu but the fact they are usually prem adds a few probs, and we have the intensive care part of the unit which deals with vents etc.
ive got 3 kids and thought once i had kids it would be a hard job to do, but to be honest i think it makes me more passionate about what i do, and i feel i can communicate better with the parents and empathise without seeming like im being aloof. i very often shed a few tears, but we all do, you would have to super human and cold hearted not to, but its not all tears and gloom, most babies do really well.

They got me good and proper...must be the Northern humour.

I was also asked to seperate all the linen sheets the long from the short. It took me 3 hours and have a guess all the sheets were the same length

Why dont you ask Paul if you can change your username cos the scuba nurse is stuck with you now....and it sounds good too
