Re: Coronavirus
Self-isolation perhaps isn't so bad. My daughter just informed me that North Korea only had a single case of coronavirus and they shot him. Containment complete. ;)

Would it be bad form say if your wife is spending a week in Mexico with her girlfriends and is due home on Saturday that you suggest she self isolates for 14 days somewhere else?

Hi Bristol
I am not sure how that last comment has relevance to be honest. I'm surprised that it was you that said that. Yes, to everything you said. The mention of the fee wasn't a dig, it was strictly in the context of Jsmth's situation with their doc apparently insisting in a face to face appointment - in three weeks time, despite their doc having cancelled two appointments already and the renewal script needed in a week. J expressed a wish to see such things done by phone and I mentioned that our province has just announced such a procedure - and for more than a prescription renewal. Do you remember you once referred to the practice of some docs where after a referral to a specialist, instead of the specialist doing a normal follow up, the patient's regular doc would re-refer to the specialist because the fee for a referral was higher than for a regular follow up? With that in mind (and probably a little bit of my own doc happy to have double appointments in one time slot ) I was thinking that his doc - if paid by the 'fee per consult' method - might still want face to face even if telephone consult was allowed. So it was specific to J's situation with his doc. Maybe I should have put it differently. |

Re: Coronavirus
This morning we were up at 5 and went down to our condo, just a 20 min ride away, to bring back food and supplies that were there. We are staying out of downtown and I wanted to get them before the rate of infections gets too bad. On the way back we stopped at Rabba. It was 6.30 so I thought it would be quiet. Wearing gloves we bought a loaf and milk. The shelves were full...just like a normal day. Plenty of loo rolls too.

Re: Coronavirus
I renewed my prescription yesterday and they wouldn't let me pick it up, delivery only for the time being. Also yesterday at No Frills and Wholesale Club the fresh meat and poultry sections were heavily depleted (but there was still some) as well as noticeable holes in the canned goods shelves, also at Giant Tiger (though they don't have much anyway). It must be from people filling up their freezers, and my take on this is fine, some people who live out of town, people who have families and want to make sure they're ok in case they want to or have to stay home. The supply chain will catch up soon because the freezers can only hold so much, and people can only eat so fast. I'm confident enough that I haven't bothered plugging in the freezer in the basement, and didn't bother going out early to take advantage of the new senior's shopping hour at the grocery stores that are doing it. I want to get gas while it's still 73.9, a new bottle of Lemon Hart and a case of Diet Coke, some brown sugar and some baker's chocolate, a dozen tortillas and some chicken thighs if I see them. Maybe a big can of tomato juice in case I need Bloody Marys, then I'll be prepared. It's hard enough for me to rotate the stuff in the freezing compartment in the fridge so I'm not wasting space up there, but I have considered getting a little energy-efficient freezer at some point. I helped a friend bring a little Danby home about a month ago and it seemed like a nice unit for about $220 on sale. I think freezers like that will be out of stock for awhile too.

Re: Coronavirus
I am off to get water, milk and contact lense solution today, water because our tap water is well water and despite a treatment system is pretty smelly so unpalatable. Milk because we need tea and contact solution for my eye health. I tend to keep our food stocks low as there are only two of us, hopefully if we do end up quarantined I'll still be able to feed us.

You will have to get the shears out and do her yourself lol. I have had to give Nushka 2 baths already this week due to poopageddon, thankfully she is still little and also very good. She needs a nail trim, I shall get the vets to do that tomorrow as I am too scared to do that (black nails, can't see the vein). I’ve just ordered a hair trimmer from Amazon. I will do Ellie and then hubby needs a trim. :sneaky::D ellie has black claws...I use one of those claw grinders. Works quite well, as I too am worried about hurting her with the clippers. |

Bus drivers here are no longer giving the transfer slips if one needs to change buses and they will not be punching the punch cards either. You just show your card and the 'honour' system means you will make a hole yourself. I helped a friend bring a little Danby home about a month ago and it seemed like a nice unit for about $220 on sale. It was in the house before I was.

I have a Danby chest freezer, it came from the scratched and dented section (like all my appliances). The scratched side is against a wall. It was $90 so less than the cost of one tray of contents. I've had it about 15 years so I think it's been value for money. Danby is a local firm with a good reputation as an employer so, really, it's just the ideal appliance for this socialist to use to chill the champagne.

https://old.reddit.com/r/PublicFreak..._is_increased/ So I guess in theory the prices technically haven't gone up since its the regular listed price and they can say the lower price is promotional. It is surprising how high normal price is on some products that seem to be perpetually on sale at stores. In parts of the US they are cracking down hard, price increases during states of emergencies is illegal, and arrests and charges are being made, but not sure how it works in Canada. Professional stores know not to price gouge, but these people on craigslist in the US trying to make a quick buck don't seem to understand that price gouging in a state of emergency is a criminal act in many states. |

https://www.boredpanda.com/coronavir...ason-yanowitz/ I am surprised with more than doubling of cases in BC in a week, that they haven't shut the place down, its clear people wont listen, and some businesses are putting money above health of their employees and society. Grocery stores need to remain open as do other essential businessmen, but majority of business needs to be shut down. I would also like to see transit shut down, transit use here is so high and many have no cars that shutting it down will force people to stay in and force companies to close as employees will have trouble getting to work, also shut down car sharing, and limit taxis and uber to essential travel only and list locations these services can drop off and pick up. Will suck but seems the only way to stop the spread is for people not to be out and about. Airlines need to be shut down as well at this point, people have have plenty of warnings and time to return home, if they have chosen not to return home by now, that is their problem, shouldn't have ignored the warning to return home and not travel for the last 2 weeks. |

Re: Coronavirus
Canadian Tire is closing its non-essential banners Mark’s/L’Équipeur, SportChek, Sports Experts, Atmosphere, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, National Sports, and PartSource stores. Canadian Tire stores will remain open with reduced hours. Effective tomorrow.
Sunwing announced this today:"If a northbound flight is operating from their destination, they should make their way to the departure airport and present themselves to the Sunwing Airlines check in counter. If space remains prior to departure at the closure of check in, any available seats will be offered to Canadians or Canadian permanent residents free of charge. Given the unprecedented situation, the focus of our company and destination team remains on the repatriation of our customers. We therefore ask to please refrain from calling us since availability can only be confirmed at the airport ahead of the closure of check in for each flight service. We expect to have all Sunwing customers home by Monday March 23. At our current estimate, Sunwing will be operating almost 400 flights and spending more than $26 million to bring these Canadians home safely, at no extra cost to the customer." Sunwing is offering available seats on its repatriation flights from southern destinations to stranded Canadians, free of charge – including for non-Sunwing customers. |

Re: Coronavirus
Curve as of today for Canada. From Global News on facebook. One problem with being mostly stuck inside in a small apartment is everything on TV, and the internet is mostly just COVID 24/7 so hard to get away from it all. Don't believe everything politicians say on TV, RE the earlier poster who said pharmacies don't need a prescription, according to the pharmacists this is not true.

OH's place of work is asking for volunteers to go in 2 months EI. OH asked what was going on as he was hearing rumours and was told, it's nothing for you to worry about, it doesn't apply to you. We will see, everything seems to be on a hourly change right now.

If people are only contagious for a period, IMHO, the entire country should be shut down for that period and we can all then return to normal. |
