This is the problem we have in Canada, too many mixed messages. How can a public health service be any different in BC than it is in Ontario? It should be one mandate across the board or no mandate. As you point out we could see some look to moving east but why would that unvaccinated nurse who was prevented from working in healthcare in Kelowna be perfectly able to practice in Toronto for example? If it's for "safety of the patients" then clearly there's a mixed message there. If it's because they cannot afford to lose nurses well neither can we!
Added to this BC backtracked on mandating vaccines for school staff and now school boards are choosing not to mandate it themselves. Interesting that the UK has also backtracked from mandating NHS workers to get the shot but that could happen early next year, time will tell.

This is not something I would have ever thought I would see to encourage people to get vaccinated.

Looks like when faced with being fired, some of the healthcare workers chose to get the vaccine afterall, down to only 2% unvaccinated, they have 5 more days to get their first dose, will be interesting to see the total % who flatout refuse.

Interesting that in the UK the government have now said they will mandate vaccines for all NHS staff but April is the deadline and it has to be passed through parliament. Meanwhile there as been some kickback about the care workers who are already mandated and have passed the deadline. This is for England only as Scotland and Wales have not made any decision on mandates as yet so care workers there are still able to work unvaccinated. I think most of us are hoping that by April this will all be starting to settle down and getting back to some normality so it seems an odd timeframe to be working towards.

Interesting number there too.

473 yesterday in BC, although I don't know the break down between vaccinated and non-vaccinated.

Found an article that mentions is.

"From Nov. 4 to 10, people who were not fully vaccinated accounted for 61.0 per cent of cases and from Oct. 28 to Nov. 10, they accounted for 68.9 per cent of hospitalizations, according to the province."

90% of those over 12 in BC have 1 dose with 86% fully vaccinated now.

"Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said in a media briefing that "children under 12 continue to have the highest incidence rates across all age groups."

The strain of COVID-19 Delta variant AY 4.2 has been found in BC, first identified in UK, for now they beleive vaccines are still effective for Delta's evolution, if if it's spreading more quickly or are making people sicker.

BC expects children aged 5 to 11 to have an approved vaccine ready within 1-2 weeks, just waiting on Health Canada approval.

Much lower overall count today for BC BUT you wonder if this is because testing was way down due to the extreme weather events and many places inaccessible due to flood.

Good point. I would need a few days to a week of consistent numbers, guess we will find out, but I imagine the floods are preventing people from accessing testing sites, and impedeing/slowing down samples to the lab/s.

I wonder if all samples are still going to the LM? They were at one point, not sure if they have spread out labs a little better or if everything still goes to LM for actual lab part.

Public Health Agency Of Canada quietly on November 12th changed their mask reccomendations a bit, "Previous guidance advised Canadians at higher risk of exposure and severe disease "wear a well-fitting, well-constructed non-medical mask that includes a filter layer" or "consider wearing a well-fitting medical mask if one is available."

Looks like they now reccomend only medical masks for certain groups.

Not really. As most people are fully vaccinated it's what you'd expect. Would be worrying if these people got seriously ill or died but the vaccine tends to negate these possibilities.

On the same page I saw this! Chapman's Ice Cream (UK immigrants who started a company, lost it in a fire, then rebuilt) are in the news. Their son Ashley who heads the business is on the anti-vaxers' shit list for imposing a mandate on his employees. Chapman's is good stuff, and I haven't had ice cream since the spring but I might pick some up after reading this:

They are breaking the “Geneva Convention”, apparently. I am confident a complaint to UNHRC against Chapman’s will succeed. Uyghur concentration camp complaints are touch and go but “Chapman’s makes me take tests” is a slam dunk.

The Chapman family are local heroes. The factory burned down and they were out of business for months, perhaps longer, while a new one was built. During that time they paid their employees as if they were working. Around here it's safer to say a word against St. Dolly Parton than against the Chapmans.

Seems like a rather level headed and fair policy, they could have gone the other way and just fired them all like other companies.

Plus giving a $1/hr raise to the vaccinated employees is only fair, since the company is spending about the same having to test the non-vaccinated, so if you look at from a different angle, the non-vaccinated are simply choosing to use their $1/hr raise for COVID tests instead.

While I have never been a fan of their ice cream, I do admire them as a company and they seem like an overall good place to work and a good family who seems to care.

This afternoon we walked through Toronto’s PATH system (underground shops and walkways linking the Downtown office buildings, mall and train station). A couple of months ago it was deserted and 99% of the shops were closed. Today there were quite a few people walking around and most of the shops were open. It’s not as busy as it was pre-Covid…but it’s getting there.
