On RPL form, sec B, in included documents, it states 'must include curriculum documents' anyone have any idea just what this means?

I am an EMT - B in Colorado but I am a British Citizen, I have been in the states for nearly 3 years and am trained as an emt-b, ekg basic and advanced, IV certified and phlebotomy certified. I am unsure what that would make me in Australia or even UK terms currently i am a volunteer emt as I am on a H4 visa and cant do paid work -

I can do pretty much all pre hospital care but I think the difference comes with drug administration - my list is limited and I can intubate with duel lumen and king tube.

My husband has the possibility of moving to Australia and so I wanted to see what my merits are worth there. If we contunue in the states I start the paramedic programme in the fall so that would take me another year...

Hope someone can offer me some advice.
Thanks

Isabel

Hey Isabel! I asked a question kind of similar to this one, and am waiting for a reply. It all depends on how lenient they are through the RPL process. I am in the application process with ASNSW, and I went to CU-Boulder so i'm pretty familiar with the EMT-B protocols in CO. I'm currently an EMT-I. I think the lack of drugs in the scope of practice for the EMT-B would be a hurdle to overcome. (EMT-Bs in CO can only give narcan and dextrose correct?) Other than the medications, the skills are pretty similar. I think you could get a spot as a PTO or maybe Paramedic. I will let you know if I make it through the RPL. Maybe someone who is a little closer to the action can chime in on this one.

hi scott and kel. overseas quals are assessed by a panel and they decide what level you join asnsw as. i have no idea who is on the panel or how they decide where you fit into the service. sorry i cant be much help. they did a recruitment drive in the uk so i think they had pretty much a good idea on uk qualifications and their equivalent in australia. all i will say is 'come on in, the water is nice and warm'

For this, I just got the indexes of modules in the tech and Para courses showing what was studied I seem to remember.

I spoke to ASNSW about this and all they said was to state that you are seeking RPL for Advanced Diploma and how I met the requirement was UK SR Para. They said that they knew the skills matrix/ curriculum for UK Para's so they didn't need it from me. All I had to include was my certificates.

My advice is to contact them and see what they say and if this is still the case.

Proving innoculations is now the latest thing, having to proving immunity to mumps, measles and rubella plus Hep B via a blood test. Was told last week everything in order and to submit my Visa application and they would send my Offer Letter out. This week they are with-holding my Offer Letter until I prove my immunity. Are they making it up as they go along?

Hi got my paperwork today reference the visa process and start date just waiting for job offer, but i am still undecided whether to make the move. They expect people to sell their house and be over in Australia in 7-8 months !!!!!! I dont think they realise how bad the Uk housing market is and its taken 5 months from doing interview and tests to get to this point already, why do they take so long ???? Come on you guys and gals give me some encouragement why i should make the move, it looks now with the house prices in Sydney etc whether i will ever be able to buy property for me an my family without taking on a massive mortgage over a number of years which at the age of 45+ is it worth it !!!!! Will we ever get our place we want to really work when the training period is over or will we be stuck in Sydney all the time!!!!

Hi mate

I feel for you. Have only just booked my flights to go out for interview etc. Although not as far advanced as you, it's so far taken 4 months since my initial email to ask for application forms.

You make a good point re housing market. If ultimately successful, will now have to rent UK house as equity not worth cashing in!

But, still pressing ahead for now. Still imagining the sunshine and beaches!

Keep your chin up

Regards

Hi swigski, I have seen it mentioned a few times in this thread that a PSV (category D) is required if you are going over on a temp visa. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that a PSV category isn't required but I am going to get confirmation from the DVLA tomorrow.

A PSV category is used to allow you to carry passengers for hire or reward (taxi's/ busses etc).

I am pretty sure a C1 category (equivalent to NSW Light Rigid) will allow you to carry any amount of passengers as long as the vehicle doesn't exceed 7.5tonnes and is not for hire or reward. This category is what all UK Ambulance staff must have on their licence anyway. I also know for a fact that the Army are using buses carrying 36 passengers and the drivers only have the C1 category.

When I was at interview, I was told I could only have a temp visa as I don't have 3 years post qual. I was asked to see my Licence and they returned it to me and said it was OK for the temp visa. I have C1 and D1 (minibus up to 16 passengers) on my licence.

As I said, I will get clarification from the DVLA tomorrow. I am sure the PSV category is only needed if you are carrying fare paying passengers and the C1 will cover you to carry non-paying passengers up to the 7.5t weight limit.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll really enjoy your time in Sydney. I loved it!

Just a guide for time frames....I had my interview at the beginning of November 2008 and received an offer of employment on the day. I have just received my written offer of employment, RPL Certificate and VISA sponsorship nomination yesterday. I can now lodge my VISA application which can go through pretty quickly by all accounts.

With regards to the driving thing, the rules for TEMPORARY visitors have changed from April 2008. These people have to be in NSW for 6 months before they can apply for a NSW drivers licence and then it gets marked with a Q and is only valid for 12 months.

Here is the link to the info:
