Huckabee says he'll drop out if he doesn't place in the top three in Iowa - POLITICO
Huckabee to quit if he isn't top three in Iowa.
Time take old yella out back and put him out of his misery. Why wait?

Not usually a fan of Chomsky, but thought he was spot on about Iran/ME in this video (20 mins total). From minute 15:30 he refers to the GOP candidates, and makes the interesting point that the whole American political spectrum has shifted to the right in the last few decades.

An interesting and enlightening piece by Pat Buchanan on Donald Trump.

Chauncey Devega then uses that little bit of editorial as a springboard to issue his extremely long and boring polemic on how the Republican base, in his view, is racist, nativist, xenophobic and all the other charges routinely leveled against Republicans by left-wing extremists. Salon could have cut off half his piece of shite without losing any of its self-indulgent vitriol.
It was neither enlightening nor interesting, but simply more of the same old same old.

It struck a nerve, didn't it? The exposed truth hurts when you leave that political echo chamber that you clearly dwell in. You can go back to sucking your thumb now.

Does anybody seriously believe the Media is honest?

You can go back to insulting those who don't agree with you - it's a lot easier than thinking.

Merry Christmas, Flavius.

A perfect example of a truly dishonest bit of advertising. The article uses a small section of a Buchanan editorial that postulates that part of Trump's appeal is that his supporters believe that the media is truly dishonest and therefore they completely discount it.

Sure you can dismiss the article because of bias or quality of writing. But, at the end of the day, the Republican's biggest problem isn't the media or the Dems ... the GOP is fractured and is cannibalizing itself.
The Southern strategy was hugely effective at getting the white working class to abandon the Democratic party. Now, 40 to 50 years later, the Republican party needs to attract new cohorts in order to make the numbers work for the White House. The establishment understands this but the base looks at it as a betrayal. Trump plays only to the base. This is an entirely internal problem.

Seemed a good article to me. I think the worrying thing with figures like Trump is not that they reflect underlying racism in the less educated, but that they encourage it, stoke it and validate it.
