your process sounds very similiar to my brothers' to which he and his partner submitted in Sydney over the counter aswell.

they had an interview straight away aswell. albeit this was about 3 years...

i havent' ever had any problems getting work. at first i worked for $10 (knowing it was short term) an hr till i got my current job. which pays well and i get great holiday time off etc.

personaly i think the whole point is. you are being asked to be let into the country as a tourist. a visitor.

if whilst you are here you prospect some jobs. look at some houses for sale. etc...

PS. with todays ticketing the way it is. there realy is no excuse as far as i would see that customs would accept for not having a return ticket. you can get return tickets for up to a year. at least...

i came to canada once as a one! month tourist. had a return ticket etc.

my luggage was searched beyond beleif. i was questioned beyond belief!

yes and even if you have a return ticket it is the same.

it's always up to customs as to who comes in and how long etc.:)

it can depend aswell on whether the place you are looking at to rent is vacant at the time or not.

last place i rented in australia, it was a good 4- 5weeks after i looked at it before...

i was wondering about this too as i had never heard of the term before i started viewing this forum.

it's not something we use in australia. ( well maybe some do but certainly not anyone i know)
