Re: Amazon.ca is pants!

It's kind of where amazon.co.uk/.com were about 10 years ago, you could get books and CDs, usually cheaper than RRP (not always), or a poor selection of electronics well above street prices.
So yes,...

Re: Christmas Bonus.

The usual nothing. Not even had a payrise for 2 years now, so that's an effective 10% paycut over the period.

It's the Sidney Santa parade tonight, followed by the sail past. Good fun family event if you've never been to it before :)

Re: Living In Victoria BC

The waterfront pubs are pretty terrible, no atmosphere, just old people eating boiled cabbage and waiting to die. Although that covers most of Sidney really.
Dickens is pretty rough-and-ready, much...

Re: Living In Victoria BC

Mostly quiet, which is nice. It only gets noisy when we are out in town, which is rare (although we shall be down the Dickins this evening).

Re: Living In Victoria BC

Come up to Sidney sometime, we're 30's, no kids, but you have to like cats'n'dogs :)

Re: Victoria BC live music & Music schools

Lots of live music, mostly local stuff though. The main arena in Victoria itself does get quite a few big names, but there is a good live music scene, several festivals, pubs with live music etc. ...

Re: Victoria, Bc

Move there, or don't. No-one cares. I would definitely base my decision on a bunch of Internet posts by people that have neither lived, nor in many cases even been there :)
Try visiting and make...

Re: Travelling in Canada with my dog.

If you do decide to bring him over, make sure you are absolutely, 100% utterly certain that you aren't going to run into any issues getting him home again. Wouldn't want to turn up back in the UK...

Re: collecting pets at Vancouver airport?

Well, we're in Sidney, next door to the airport and ferries. North Saanich is more of an area than a specific town, so you could be near to one of a number of piers. Anywhere you are in North...

New member of the family

Meet Rufus, 9 week old husky-mix from the local SPCA shelter. We picked him up yesterday and we're utterly in love with him already ...

Re: collecting pets at Vancouver airport?

Nice, Saanich covers a pretty big area (by Victoria terms anyway). Let us know roughly where and we might be able to suggest good local places to visit (pubs, restaurants, things to do etc).

Re: collecting pets at Vancouver airport?

We rarely manage to get to the meets, we live up in Sidney and it's such a pain getting back here after a night out. Still, if you fancy an afternoon/evening in Sidney, let us know (we're both...

Re: collecting pets at Vancouver airport?

Our cat came cargo on TC, we had to go across to the cargo area to get him too, it was a bit of an ordeal. Word of advice, make sure you get all the paperwork stamped before you leave the terminal....

Re: British GP looking to move to BC

There is a shortage of GPs pretty much everywhere in BC (and probably Canada). I work with a lot of Doctors across the Province and "I can't find patients" is rarely something I hear!
P.S. if you...

We used Fox, no real problems. Well, aside from the container not getting here for 8 weeks instead of the 4 they quoted.

Re: How is Victoria, BC as a place to work and live?

There is a booming tech sector here (well, booming-ish) so there are jobs around. Usually comes down to who you know of course. Ignore any government positions unless you're a female from a visible...

Re: I have a kitch full of shiney new appliances!

Try a little bit of baby oil on stainless. Wipe it on with a paper towel, and then dry it right off again. Takes off marks/fingerprints and leaves it shiny and sealed for another week.
