All I know is that last tax year I earned $40000 in salary and paid $9000 in tax and $40000 self employed and paid NO tax and NO GST.

If you want to scrounge the Welfare System in Oz straight after arriving then you need to be on a refugee visa, otherwise it is a 2 year wait for unemployment benefit.

I have heard this term used by the people who maintain the draglines during shutdowns. I think they do all the non-skilled work for the electricians and the mechanics. Can't tell you more I'm afraid....
