Default Here comes Kevin Rudd with more bad news

In his 6,100 word long article, Kevin Rudd says Aussies should get ready for higher unemployment, rising interest rates, severe budget cuts and more expensive food and petrol in the days ahead. Here it is....

"As the global financier George Soros put it: "For 25 years [the West] has been consuming more than we have been producing ?c living beyond our means."

Perhaps society needs to rethink where we are headed. We talk of recovery, but recovery to what ? The House of Cards situation that led to all this ?

I believe that we as individuals need to shift our expectations now as to what is normal life should consist of and let go of the concept of the world economically and perhaps even socially returning to before this mess all started. We all blame fat cats, governments, banks, whomever, but I think this has to happen at an individual household level as well.

In the report I can see a lot of "we need to do's" - but not "how we will do it" .

Garbled diatribe with plenty of smokescreening as usual

Kevin has always avoided talking up the economy. In the past he's given a more bleak assessment than what has actually eventuated. Most economists are saying Australia has done and will continue to do better than was forecast and may even escape a technical recession altogether. That's a stunning economic achievement when you consider the dire situation in places like the U.K. and Japan.

Kevin's talking down the economy is a cynical ploy to get re-elected. If people's expectations are low and (surprise surprise) the economy does better than expected, guess who gets the credit? Nice timing for the next election.

Agreed. What's more worrying though is the fact business leaders on the one hand believe "she'll be right" and on the other hand think the everyday worker is better off as interest rates have come down. According to business leaders they don't need to provide salary increase as people are better off in real terms

Recession? Forget smoke screening and "facts & figures" and talking up and down the economy when it suits. If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck and looks like a duck - it's a duck

Kevin is an excellent politician. He puts his feet in all camps, says whatever he wants the public to hear at any one time pending his agenda and never quite states the whole truth or gives a strong opinion on one thing or another nor a solution. He's Mr beige / neutral

Rebalance global finance and trade?
Strengthen financial regulation?
Return to government surplus?
Increase Productivity?
Improve Infrastructure?
...

If you know what they are, "How would you do it?".

Two separate quotes from Kevin Rudds own mouth, at different times / events.
Kevin Rudd has stated both that :
“I am not a socialist, I have never been a socialist and I never will be a socialist”

and

”I am a Christian socialist”

When you grew up with Maggie the evil villain, then Kevin is one of the better ones and I've met many over the years.
