We considered going back to Australia which is where I grew up. But there was simply no way I would get anywhere near the pay I get in the USA. Also tax exemptions are very generous here in the USA...

I think if you're British by birth it isn't necessary, but I think it can be handy to have a UK birth certificate for various reasons later in life: lost passport, visa applications, etc.

Yep, it's almost $300 once you add up registration, one copy and postage!!

I think you need more documentation once the kid is over 3 months old, that's why I did it so soon after birth.

Has anyone actually had to prove their residence in the UK when registering for a GP? I never did - in fact I don't think you even need an NI number, so I'm not sure how they even check...

I'm a Democrat fortunately. I think if I was a conservative I would be very angry with the selection of Palin as VP, but then I guess most true conservatives are no fans of George W Bush either.

As with most things in the USA, the market for your skill set dictates your benefits.

I'm also in California and I'm lucky enough to get 25 PTO days per year. Sick days come out of these too,...
