We've been here for three and a bit months, the house is great: 3 beds, 2 baths, fab location, walking distance to shops/supermarket/restaurants and a pub (a rarity in Perth!), close to Freo and...

Re: Finding work in Australia - Let's hear your experiences

OK - I *did* say "might apply" but I do think it depends on how technical you are. The more technical the requirement, the more likely you are to be OK (so long as you have all the right...

Re: Things to buy in UK before leaving for Oz

If you have kids - especially babies - then stock up on baby clothes, especially bodysuits/babygrows/sleepsuits as I have found them much more expensive over here than in the UK. I bought one short...

Re: Perth help

Hi there,

Your uncle is probably not wrong if he visited 15,20 years ago. Before Dung Beetles were introduced, Perth was notorious for flies all summer long and they could be really dreadful at...

Re: rockingham/mandurah

Hi there,

Work-wise it depends on what you do. I would say if you lived in Rockingham it would still be a viable commute in the car (and by the new train when it arrives) to Perth and the CBD....

Re: Perth - Gosnells/Southern River - reputation?

Anyway. I agree - Balga and Coolbellup ARE shiteholes, as well as Leda and Kwinana. All of which...

Re: Perth - Gosnells/Southern River - reputation?

Also - I wouldn't say it was just Brits who were hooked on the 4x2 thing - lots of Australians wouldn't consider living in a smaller property. It's what they grow up with, what they are used to. So...

Re: Perth - Gosnells/Southern River - reputation?

Middle class for Perth I mean - i.e predominately white collar jobs with kids in schools. Mt Lawley would be way beyond the average "Middle income" family.

Re: Perth - Gosnells/Southern River - reputation?

Hi there,

The others are right - Gosnells does have a bit of a repuation but I wouldn't say that it was as bad as "bad areas" in the UK are (so we're not exactly talking Motherwell here). When I...
