Just an update for anyone who's interested.....

You can pay online for this visa by credit card and they email you the receipt immediately.

Application was sent to UK on 31 March, not sure of...

Nothing legally I suppose, but imagine the hoo har it would cause if all new migrants first question was 'what benefits am i entitled to?' rather than, 'where is the nearest job centre so I can try...

Possible? Yes, thats how we did it in Jan 2007.

Easy? Maybe, depends on finding employer willing to employ OH for 20 hours per week until visa is sorted (took 3 months for mine to get approved)....

I got an email and a letter from them saying they were processing my application and issued me with a case file number. Guess thats pretty much how everyone else hears too.
