Default How long before you are able to apply for a mortgage?

OK, you have just arrived in OZ, managed to organise a rental & start full time employment in 2 weeks time with a reputable firm.
Bearing in mind that your UK credit history is of no value in Australia, how long would it take to build up your credit history so that you can get a mortgage?

How much of a deposit do you have? How expensive is the house? Are you on probation? How much are you earning? What visa are you on?

All of the above will be taken into account.

Cheers

We had a biggish deposit and got a mortgage a month after landing (and are now Aussie landowners - now to build the house)

You don't need a credit history to get a mortgage. A new one will be created for you when you apply for the mortgage.

All your credit history contains is the dates and amounts of credit applied for and any defaults etc - it doesn't contain a score or anything like that.

No credit history, you'll have a perfect score!

I have been told my our local mortgage company that we just need proof that we are in permanent employment and provide 2 pay slips (even if you get paid weekly/fortnightly)

The orange dust bubble are you moving to Sydney ???

WE were told when we went to a bank in Melbourne 2006 when we orgininally looked at moving out that we would need to have lived in Australia and been employed for a year before we could get a mortgage, that burst our bubble at the time as we had been looking at houses and also land to buy to build build a new house on so it's either changed or every different area and bank etc make they're own rules for your records that was ANZ
