Re: Brisbane??

I agree this summer in Brisbane has been particularly long and hot. However, I would say a "normal" Brisbane summer is three months of muggy heat, while the rest of the year is pretty much perfect....

Re: Advice need re not so good solicitors

Although I am a lawyer, this is not legal advice, but rather a personal observation. If a dispute over a contract goes to Court, the contract would be interpreted according to the [I]intention of the...

Re: Advice on French laws regarding child maintenance.

There is an international treaty which deals with these issues (The Hague Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance). Both the UK and France are...

Re: Setting up a Holiday Home Rental

I guess the first thing to think about is whether you want to run this as a business, or an occasional source of income.

We have a homestay (self-catering) cottage in the Wairarapa. We don't live...

Re: Best areas to live with young children in Wellington

I recommend the seaside suburb of Eastbourne and its neighbouring bays (especially Days Bay, where we live when in NZ). There is an excellent primary school in Eastbourne (Muritai) and a real...

Re: From NZ to Brisbane

Good for you, Cappuccino! What a great attitude.

I have been in Brisbane for three years (15 years in Wellington before that, but I am originally from the UK - even spent part of my childhood in...

Re: Offered a job in Bay of Plenty area

We moved our kids to NZ at the ages of 7 and 9 and they had a very good education there, but many of the education issues you mention are unfortunately worldwide. I used to be a secondary school...

Re: Brisbane 'burbs'

I imagine you don't live in NF, Alfresco? I agree it has a lot more going for it than most suburbs, but I really don't think it qualifies as "vibrant". I suppose it's all relative, but I wouldn't...

Re: Can you build roots in a new country?

And of course online forums such as this one are also an important part of the community.

On this subject, I have just discovered a wonderful blog called Allconsuming by Kim Berry, who is an...

Re: Brisbane 'burbs'

I haven't been in New Farm very long, but I really like it, although it's not everybody's cup of tea. It does feel like a separate village, and yet it's very handy to the City. I have to say I work...

Re: Ping pom confused UK>Perth>UK>Perth>Melbourne>UK?

Sorry, I don't want to hijack Dave's post, but I don't understand. I have enjoyed a beer while watching sport at both the stadium and the pub. What rules are you referring to?

Re: Ping pom confused UK>Perth>UK>Perth>Melbourne>UK?

I'm not sure I have any sensible advice but, as a ping pommer myself, I do understand how you feel. My husband is a Kiwi and we have spent the last thirty-odd years ping-ponging between the UK, NZ...

Re: Brisbane 'burbs'

When we first moved to Brisbane we lived in a furnished apartment right in the city centre- there are lots of these around (although not many take pets, unfortunately). They do tend to be quite...

Re: Where to get good thai green curry in Brisbane?

Hello again. I have just tried green chicken curry at 2B Thai, and unfortunately I wasn't impressed. It was far too sweet for me - the usual problem with Thai restaurants in Oz, I find. Guess I'll...

Re: Thoughts? Workable or Feasible? Legal????

With all due respects to previous posters, why are you trying to do this by the back door? Why don't you go direct to the source itself - i.e. the banks - for accurate information?

Lloyds has a...

Re: Employer Breathaliser Help and Info please

Do you have a union? If so, I would seek advice from them. I suggest you ask if you can have a support person with you when you go to the meeting with HR if possible. Ideally this would be a union...

Re: Where to get good thai green curry in Brisbane?

I haven't tried it yet as I have just moved to the area, but I hear very good things of 2B Thai, Merthyr Rd, New Farm, Brisbane. Intending to try it out soon - I'll send you a review when I have.

Re: Upper Hutt, Wellington

Are they new subdivisions? If so, I imagine it's just farmers selling off surplus land.

I used to live in Upper Hutt. It has always felt to me like a bit of a "poor cousin" to Wellington in that...

Re: Leaving NZ for Aus

My contribution is this: bear in mind that your children will almost certainly want to move around the world when they are older.

I am married to a Kiwi and we moved more or less permanently to...
