You can open a NZ bank account in advance and transfer some funds in before you arrive. Then you have bank details to pay the bond and a direct debit which will be a big plus.

I live near the rental place, 10 min walk, so no extra cost ath this end, then I hope to sort my digs in a day in Wellington then drop the car of and get the bus to my digs.
