Re: Uk immigration

it's not just about jobs though, it's about the whole resource and infrastructure foundations of the country being stretched to breaking point... Electricity, water, food, housing, transportation,...

Re: Canada just like the US?

well for what it's worth, I have a lot of experience with the OPP and the Sûreté (even got drunk with them) and they all seem pretty tame.

Re: Canadian Beer (Not the Molson kind...)

Ahh forgot about Wellington - that's good stuff!

Another drink I used to really miss was cider - but there seems to have been a boom in cider production in Canada (well southern Ontario at least)...

Re: Anyone live in Sudbury?

I love the place! Although I'm in the mining business so I'm a bit biased. It does have quite a gritty feel to it because of all the mining (although its economy has diversified) but the way I see it...

Re: Village Lifestyle within commuting distance to London

What, Kedington? If you're after a village lifestyle then Kedington is the embodiment of it!

Re: work on drilling rigs, onshore or offshore

haha :P

diamond rig refers here to the diamond-tipped drill-bits - they're used to extract drillcore in the mining and mineral exploration industry (which of course could include diamond mining!)....

Re: Anyone in the Hamilton/Burlington Area???

Whereabouts do you live in Hamilton? The missus lives there and I love the place so I'm often there (when I'm not away working anyway) - must actually meet some of you expat chaps when I'm back next...

Re: Village Lifestyle within commuting distance to London

No offence but if you want to work in London, can't you just live in London? It's the plague of commuter-types and second-home-owners that are obliterating the very village lifestyle that you are...

Re: work on drilling rigs, onshore or offshore

Have you considered working on diamond or RC rigs? In the mineral industry as opposed to oil/gas? Much more fun IMO - and you'll get to see much much more of Canada on the job!

Re: TIP OF THE ICEBERG - THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR BRITAIN

Those chaps are a little bit scary...

We need to grow some balls and stand up for our secular, tolerant, democratic Western values - in all of Europe and North America. The UK is one of the worst...

Re: Scottish people emigrating to Canada.

Tonnes of Scots in Hamilton. Most of the pubs are Scottish-themed too. One of the pubs near me seems to be a massive expat haunt, it's always rammed with incomprehensible weegie-sounding folk!

Re: Terrible news out of the UK

Man that must absolutely kill the community. It's getting to be like that in rural Herryfordshire where I grew up.

Second homes should be bloody illegal for the damage they do to communities.

Re: Attitude Towards British Immigrants?

Most people seem to like the accents (although if you don't speak the Queen's English they will have no idea where you came from, which can be hilarious!)

If you're English and you ever end up...

Re: thinking of moving to alberta

Maybe look into Newfoundland's offshore oil and gas industry too - not just Alberta. The Newfoundland industry is probably similar to the Scottish one. And it's closer to home!

Re: Stoney Creek

I really like the Concession Street area just up the Mountain. People bemoan it for being a bit blue-collar but, well, they're just snobs :P The houses are well cheap and extremely homely. There's...

Re: Recent UK graduate considering Canada? - Accounting or Engineering...

Know anything about mining? The mining industry over here is doing quite well, and I'm not even talking about the oil sands... You could perhaps get a mining sector job with engineering or accounting...

Re: Vancouver 56th best place to live in Canada

Ha, Burlington second? It's so dull!

Pish, I'd put Sept Iles before Burlington. Loads of adventure to be had in the northern towns.

Re: Terrible news out of the UK

Our countryside is our greatest asset for the future. We need to preserve it. England's population is already stupidly dense and it's rising all the time - how are we going to feed all these people,...

Re: Favourite British slang words / sayings........

Whenever something surprises me I often seem to blurt out something like "bloomin'eck" or "bollockin'ora" - they always seem to get laughs.
