Re: When looking for a property....

We moved into a 90s brick and tile in Pommie-moa, the agent laughed when I asked about heating and said we didn't need it because it never got really cold. If there was a god, he'd have stuck her...

Re: Im 20. Thinking about moving to NZ from the uk.

Tauranga is nice, however a lot of people retire or 'down size' here so there is a lot of disposable income in the local economy making it expensive to live in if you're not 'cashed up'.

It's also...

Re: 10 things i like about pack 'n' save

TQ, I do get my veggie mince/dahl/lentils from there but I buy in bulk every few months - I'm guilty of being on auto pilot on my way home from work. After reading the thread last night - I did make...

Re: Domestic Goddessing 102 - redcurrants.

It's not so much the recipe as the ratio of fruit to alcohol - red-currant vodka, you could bottle it and give it away for Christmas with a ribbon tied around the neck of the bottle :) It's the...

Re: 10 things i like about pack 'n' save

Totally agree, it's such a multi sensory experience. I've never lived anywhere before where EVERYONE who wore a vest - also used burger scented deodorant and acted like extras from the walking dead...

Re: 10 things i like about pack 'n' save

Sorry can't agree with you reference price, we find our shopping is around $20 - $30 a week cheaper. We have a vegetarian in the family so I buy lots of pulses etc.

My husband hates it in...

Re: Spreading some practical Christmas cheer. The BE annual random act of kindness

What a lovely idea, we always used to send the shoe boxes filled with gifts at Christmas - the children and I might put a jiffy envelope together with some colouring stuff from the warehouse and send...

Re: What is cheaper in NZ?

Ours go to a semi private school and the cost is approx a third of what we would pay in UK for the same standard of education. It works out at just under $150 a week for two children. There are...

Re: Schooling Question

We did the same, they started 3 weeks after we arrived and then attended for 3 weeks before the summer holidays began.

They both came home with phone numbers and were invited to different houses...

Re: Would New Zealand be boring for *you* if you were in your twenties?

Hi Rich,

We've had a lot of fun here and as I said earlier - it was definitely the best place to come with the children. They are absolutely thriving and the environment suits them very well.

Re: Would New Zealand be boring for *you* if you were in your twenties?

Yes, I'm struggling with it right now and I'm in my late thirties. It's a beautiful and place and I have no doubt that coming here was the right thing to do for the family - but it feels a little...

Re: TAKING OUR CAT TO NZ

Speak to someone in MAFF.

We had some issues because our cats have been through/lived in several different countries in their lifetime.

We ended up skyping NZ Maff from UK - and they were...

Re: Potential Environmental Disaster for the BoP - Bloody foreign sailors

It's understandable that if you don't live here, the saturation on TV and in the papers might be getting on your nerves - but it's so much more than playing on the beach.

I was at the meeting last...

Re: Guilt Trip

Great post. My MIL did something very similar when we came over - she upset the children, had my youngest in tears and fearful about the move and told him all his friends would forget him. She even...

Re: Looking for pen/email Pals for my 10yr daughter

Oh OK :) Mine are hopeless at that kind of thing, they just skype or xbox. Absolutely hopeless at email or writing letters, I think it may be a boy thing. Good luck, I'm sure you'll find someone.

Re: Looking for pen/email Pals for my 10yr daughter

Do you know what school you'll send her to? It might be worth asking them if she can write a letter to the class (ours did) and then perhaps a girl in the class will write back to her.

Re: Moving to New Zealand in November

That was a bit harsh - personally, I love the doom gloom threads - makes me realise I'm not completely mental if I throw my teddy out of the pram once in a while;) I can cope with most things, and...

Re: Starter Packs For New Arrivals

It's a great idea, I suspect it's purely a timing thing. When we arrived, we had a budget of $500 for camping gear to replace stuff we couldn't bring - so we camped in the house with sleeping bags...

Re: Limited or no 'quake ins may be looming

Hmm, we're woefully under insured at the moment and paying higher premiums than we ever have - for the least amount of cover. Day to day we're happy enough but if I think about it too much it makes...

Re: Ex forces pension e-petition.

Lots of the ex squaddies that we know are now firemen, paramedics and police - the pensions should all be sacred, surely that's the trade off for a career where the working and living conditions are...
