We moved here in 2004 with our 6 month old son with no idea that he was autistic. He was diagnosed at age 3 and at age 20 is non-verbal with significant challenges. I won't detail the last 20 years...

Re: Autistic kids and Ontario schools

Our problem has always been to try and find something that motivates him. Something that he regards as a loss or a reward. It's almost as if he sees what we are trying to do and decides to be no part...

Re: I'm going home, i've done my time!!

My worst fears dbd33. Somehow dealing with all the issues that we have now with our son when he grows lot bigger. We see some of the progress that he has made and selfishly hope that it continues so...

Re: I'm going home, i've done my time!!

While we still have lots of challenges and difficulties the most pleasant thing for us was to find that our little boy settled in school so quickly. I couldn't see ahead of time how he would cope...

Re: I'm going home, i've done my time!!

This has been an interesting thread because we have a 6 year old autistic son. He is severely affected.

We love him dearly but there is nothing wonderful about his condition and nothing to...

Re: insurance with 2 demerit points and car accident

Our first insurance quote in 2004 after we arrived was around $7000. We contacted a broker who got us something at around $2000 and six years later we are paying around $1100 so our experience has...

Thanks Ann. And you know what? I didn't hear that word mentioned once in the ceremony. I was very disappointed!

As an aside it was quite fascinating to hear the judge mention that the 60...

Re: CIC Citizenship timelines

I have my appointment to do take the test on the 24th June in Ottawa. I applied in December 2008 and the application was acknowledged in May 2009 if I recall correctly. It all seems so long ago.

Re: Would you do it all again?

Reasonably happy here now but it's taken a long time. Would I do it all again? Most certainly not! Might even move back one day. We'll see.

Re: The benefit of puting my 15year son in a canadian scoool now or waiting?

My daughter was aged 14 when we moved here and settled into school wonderfully. She much preferred it to the school she'd been attending in the UK.

Re: Schooling a child with Asperger's in Vancouver

It's been a steep learning...
