Re: Vancouver - what a dump (if TV drama is to be believed)

"Bland" is the one word I would use to sum up Vancouver. Better in the tourist season when there is a bit more of an atmosphere, but in the winter it is soulless.

Re: Diabetes and OHIP

From a personal point of view I found the care to be better in the UK. Things like checking injection sites, sensation in the feet and blood flow in the feet were checked at every visit whereas they...

Re: Might have cold feet....

We were 100% committed with no doubts at all and found it a very difficult process. Everything is good now but it has taken me 4 years to feel at home here. If you have any uncertainties before you...

Re: Birth and child care in UK/Canada differences

I was a Midwife for many many years in the UK. You will be fine. The midwife will carry out all of the care and deliver the baby, but the doctor will be on hand should any major problems occur, so...

What is this? Everybody get at Claireblou day! This forum used to be full of really good information, helpful hints and humour. Now it is just political correctness gone mad and if your opinion...

Re: Vancouver

You really have to come and try these different areas for yourself, but I can pretty much guarantee it will be very different to what you are used to. We were in North Vancouver to start with and...

Re: Citzenship Test

Each of us only had one question about dates, so as long as you have read the book you'll be fine. Good luck!

Re: Maple Ridge BC commute to Abbotsford /Coquitlam...

Congrats! You'll love it. As you rightly say there are homeless people everywhere and in Maple Ridge they tend to stay in the centre. The positives of living here far outweigh the negatives imo.

Re: not sure about the move from England to Canada

I was sure before we came but for the first 3 years I could have gone back to the UK in a heartbeat! I found it very different to the UK, particularly the people. After 4 years I feel a little more...

Re: finally moving to vancouver after years of wanting to

If you don't like cities and like green around you then Maple Ridge is perfect for you. There are so many Brits live here for that very same reason - easy access to Vancouver but living next door to...

Re: Parking in Vancouver is insane

They tried to resuscitate her as it hadn't been long since she called them. As a parent you find your daughter like that you instinctively call the paramedic. The police were called by the emergency...

Re: type 1 diabetes

I have 2 different types of insulin and they cost $600 for 7 boxes which is roughly 3 months supply (solostar pens). Fortunately it is paid for by my husband's extended health plan.

Re: Parking in Vancouver is insane

Friends of ours recently had a garbled message from their daughter. When they went to her apartment she had sadly passed away. They called an ambulance and were charged for it. Seems a bit mean, what...

Re: Maple Ridge BC commute to Abbotsford /Coquitlam...

My other half works in Abbotsford next to the airport and we live in Maple Ridge. It takes him 30-40 minutes and he says it is a good commute as he goes against the traffic.
