Trucks....what is the appeal?

Re: Trucks....what is the appeal?
I was thinking of an arthritic fat man, friend of my parents, Frank Cannon they called him (though that wasn't his name). He drove his black cab all the time because, he said, he couldn't fit in his wife's poncy little cars (an xj6 and later a roller).

Ah, well I'm in awe. Nonetheless, being stuck through the steering wheel wouldn't obviously involve one's knees. I suppose though that the need to accommodate such a vast swelling would explain dropping one's trousers and so having one's knees exposed for skinning.
I trust you have an understanding spouse, "You notice little carpet burn" sang Amy Winehouse about a knee, presaging disaster.

I had a Dodge Dakota. Anything bigger would've felt unnecessary, but for the dirt and gravel roads I spent my weekends on, that thing was ideal, throw all the camping stuff & bikes in the back, head off.
A friend visited from Britain, who'd always been damning of such things, since a small hatchback was all a person needed. After fifteen miles down a track with potholes half the size of his car, I turned and asked "so that we're clear, you'd be ok bringing a Polo down this?". He replied "So that we're clear, you chose this road on purpose". Yes I had. But it wasn't unrepresentative. An SUV would also have done the job, but with its own downsides, and less flexibility (the bed was very helpful whenever friends wanted to move large things).
For many entirely urban residents (and almost all cases in places like Britain), a truck is entirely for aesthetic. For various lifestyles or professions, they make perfect sense. I'd always wanted one, but would never have one in Britain. If my partner & I end up in Vancouver we're unlikely to. If we go back to Kelowna, probably will.

Our place, Foreclosure Farm, was a sensible purchase for us despite some compellingly unattractive features. Some were the result of the imminent foreclosure but some were the result of inexcusably poor taste. For example, the house and the garage were covered, completely covered, in that greige plastic shit beloved of firms that throw up housing projects. Vinyl siding they call it.
Today I looked at a huge pile of griege that we've ripped off the house. "This is no time for a Fiesta", I thought, this is why it's good to have a truck.
