But isn't a Chelsea tractor just as much of an affectation as a pick-up truck? Those great big wheels may be good for bumping over kerbs or making U turns over the highway meridian but the SUV offers less space at more cost than a minivan.
People drive what they like because it's as close to what they fancy as they can afford; there's no more logic to it than choosing flock wallpaper or faux wood paneling for the ceiling. If we were sensible we'd all drive 2CVs.

I have more than enough space in my SUV for both stinky and a good amount of luggage and more than enough space needed to shift stuff as required with the seats down and it will pull a boat, unlike a minivan.
It doesn't take up the parking space of a small African country and it serves my needs. Of course people can drive what they like, my initial question was put out there as I could not personally see the massive attraction that trucks seemed to draw particularly with the boys.

I cant understand the obsession with them at all. Ugly, gas guzzling and more expensive than penis extension surgery. There are very few people who actually need that type of vehicle. Much less the ridiculous high end models that cost 50 - 60 k. You can buy a very nice car for that. If you are a builder etc why would you buy one instead of a Transit etc??
Im sure that they just convince themselves that they 'need' one to justify the ridiculous expense.
One of the lads at work was bragging about his new Chevrolet Redneckmobile. I drive a Hyundai Accent. He was asking me why I drive such a small car and I ought to get a pick up truck. I told him that its a waste of time.....my sister and cousins are all happily married.....He asked me what I meant by this...3 days later!!!

It's the people who "don't understand them" who seem to have the obsession with them.
Personally I don't care what you drive, drive a small tin box if you want to, or something larger - as far as I am concerned it's your call, but I don't feel the need to denigrate you for your choice.

I personally don't understand the seemingly male orientated obsession to own a honking big truck. That is why I posed the initial question.Trucks are useful for certain roles, often they aren't utilised for these though. I was just curious

I really don't think that has any truth, it doesn't make sense.

I wasn't really addressing your OP which is a fair question, and which I have replied to above and on previous occasions - it is a "transport solution" that I chose, and I don't want to be f@rting around with a trailer, nor cramming stuff into an SUV. Other people prefer other solutions to their transport needs, and that is their right to choose, I just happened to choose a truck.

And another watchseries site is always useful

Well Alex is a fairly typical example of people who want to hurl insults at trucks and the people who drive them, and I would characterize that as something of an obsession.

Agree... We have one. Only reason is because Dad is a taller than average man and wants a roomy vehicle. Won't drive anything smaller than a truck... I am used to driving it but I don't care for it and wouldn't ever buy one. (I'd just borrow his if I needed one for anything
)
We don't own any boat/trailer or anything we would actually need a truck for, either.

We drive what we drive due to well trucks costs more + more fuel used in general, so out of our reach, but I would prefer a smaller pick up or SUV type to have a bit more room, the Mazda 2 is not fun for someone 6'4 no leg room at all, an hour drive and I am ready for a break to stretch, and being tall and the car small, I cannot see clearly out of it, left turns vision is partially obstructed and at a stop light, I have to bring my head down and crouch a bit to see the light, if I stop to where I can see it clearly, then the senor doesn't think a car is there and light doesn't change.....
If a choice between on of those smaller SUV's (or crossover, whatever they are called) and pick up I would choose one of those since they are more useful overall vs a pick up for us a back seat that can fit adults is more important since we rent and its rare we have to haul anything large.
