Trucks....what is the appeal?

That reference may well be lost on a lot of people

A van would be better as they wouldn't get wet, would be less likely to be stolen and would be less likely to leap out on the corners. The truck is only a clear winner if you need to tow or move smelly stuff.

Why seemingly almost exclusively driven by men? Is it that the poor defenceless women are washing up, cooking the family meal, doing their nails or prettifying themselves for their studs return from the tip?

So many people get them wrong. Dysfunctional? Never.
I was looking for a clip of a Thanksgiving episode but can't find it.
This clip, though, illustrates it quite well. Bart and Lisa in a shoot-out to decide an ice hockey game. It shows the true family relationship while satirising hockey behaviour.
It brings a tear to my eye every time I see it.

You are Marge Simpson and I claim my five pounds.
I'm thinking of an episode where mild mannered Marge drives a truck and she goes mad with the power she has in her control.
Unfortunately I can't find a youtube clip other than the follow up where she attends road rage management classes.

You carry more wildlife than I, dog waste goes out in the dustbin weekly and somewhat strangely I don't need to carry a load of 10 by 2 either on the roof or indeed inside.

There's no dustbin service in the country. I don't think it holds that trucks are driven exclusively by men; today I spoke to four people, all of them truck owners, three of them women. Trucks are what people in the county drive, not for any reason beyond it being what they do.
) whilst I observed and there were large numbers of trucks, only one driven by a woman (obviously supervised by her man).... Anecdotal maybe but I do encounter many trucks and maybe I'm completely wide of the mark by suggesting this gender slant but I really don't think so.

In Aus you're not a real Tradie if you don't carry your dog/s in the back of your Ute/Truck. Many times they're tied to a bar so they have some movement but more often than not they're just sitting there watching as the world flies by.

I carried on looking...didn't find it but found this. https://www.buzzfeed.com/skgriffith/...rwN#.eyDkrgZD0
I remember them all.
Especially the "do it for her" and Maggie's first word. Beautiful moments, every one.

Weirdly I think they think they are great owners because they don't leave their dogs at home alone all day, they take them with them. To be fair, in 11 years I've not seen one dog go flying or injured (not to say it doesn't happen). When we first saw it it was a major wtf moment, now we don't even notice it.

Plus, with a van you can pull over to the side of the road on a long trip and make a cup of tea if you have a camping stove.

Slam the brakes on hard and one dead dog, about eight cars in front of the truck if not squashed against the cab
