Trucks....what is the appeal?

* Ram has been a separate brand from Dodge for several years, and is applied to trucks made by Chrysler Fiat.

nThe best half-ton i ever had was one of these. In 1966 Ford introduced twin I-beam suspension and the ads showed one going down railway tracks with the wheels bouncing up and down on the ties. Did I do that, hell yeah! Best one hands down. Find a '66 Ford for a decent price and you can't go wrong.
One night I was at my friend's house and he asked if I wanted to buy his truck for $100. It was -35 outside and I said "Give me the key, if it starts I'll buy it.", and it started, and I drove it for years.

I paid 250 and some change when I was 17 in 1996 for a 10 year old car, the insurance on a new car, likely not something I could afford at that age.
Seems car parts becoming obsolete before the car/truck is even 10 years old?
Not sure if this is common, or just this part doesn't sell enough to justify anyone to make it.

It's truck related, is about an F150.

Welcome to the under 25 insurance game....Your young + new car = high rates.

That lost part thing is insane - our last truck we kept for nearly 8 years, rock solid, new one is the same. Both F150's. Thats definitely not good on Ford.

Seriously?
We insure three vehicles fully comp, incl a Mustang GT and an F250, for about a third of that - about C$160/mth (US$125).
But insurance has nothing to do with reliability and maintenance. Insurance premiums are a function of the price of parts and labour rates - and the propensity of owners to crash whatever car they're insuring.
Also new cars are easier to "total" than older ones - new cars are designed to crumple to protect the occupants, and are therefore harder to uncrumple and put back on the road.

Seriously, yes. Car insurance rates here are high. Admittedly I'm a more enthusiastic driver than average but they're high for everyone. By way of comparison, when I had the Land Cruiser here on CO plates it cost less per year to insure than the Beetle, on ON plates, did per month. The LC was with a US carrier that knew it lived in Canada, the Beetle with a Canadian company.

BC does seem better vs Ontario though.

In the early 70's before the cost of auto-body repairs went crazy SGI used wheelbase to determine how much car plates cost. The shorter your car, the less your insurance cost. A VW Beetle was $36 one year, then went to $38 the next... that's per year, not per month.
