The mainstream parties face a dilemma: if they unite to limit the FN’s gains, the decision may boomerang in 2017 by strengthening Ms Le Pen’s case that right and left are one and the same and she, alone, embodies change.

All the fuss over arguing about people coming here and seems Canada isnt top of the list for them anyhow.

Odd though if fleeing danger one would turn down any offer.

I posted that because I wanted to make a joke about it, but it's funny how the same story can be presented in different ways.

The version I heard was almost a "how embarrassing for Canada" sort of thing.

But while I was googling to double check the figures I heard on the radio I found an alternative report where of relevance was the lack of imminent danger coupled with the distance they'd be from an area where they still have friends and family.

Not unreasonable that they don't want to be so far away.

Not to mention the snow.

I just checked the article was dated the 4th December. Maybe it was based on an earlier article?

The Canadian Embassy sent out over 41,000 emails to migrants in camps in Lebanon and Jordan asking who would like to come to Canada. Of the approximately 3000 who replied, about 1800 showed up for interviews. John McCallum is now stuck with trying to find enough to make up the number of 25,000 Trudeau pulled out of thin air. He's also stuck with somehow trying to come up with a plan after the fact on where and how the ones who do come here are to be housed. There seems to be no regard for placing migrants where they are most likely to get jobs, to find affordable housing, and to stay. Many of the younger,better educated and financially better off migrants have headed for Europe. Bringing in families where the sole potential earner is poorly educated, can't speak English or French, where women do not work and where there are several young children, and expecting communities to somehow support and help them to adapt is a massive problem for the host communities and migrants alike. It's hardly surprising that most of the migrants don't want to come to Canada. In any case, they're obviously not in dire straits in the camps in Lebanon and Jordan or they'd be seizing any chance to get out. Let's hope that McCallum doesn't get desperate enough to fill Trudeau's invented quota with unscreened migrants and, even worse, with some of those who are already causing havoc in Europe.

If those email numbers are correct, it's rather surprising. Perhaps they have family in Europe or see time on Europe as temporary until they can return to Syria.

If they have any sense they'll try first to get a place going somewhere better and if that fails they might take a chance with Canada. In reality Canada is unlikely to be anybody's first choice.

Or perhaps its the European welfare system...............

I don't think welfare is on top of their mind. Seriously? Canada has welfare too BTW. Just wondering are you a DM reader/glancer by any chance Mike?
