I did start with that question regarding the updates. However fixing the problem and resetting my computer was a best of a shite situation fix I suppose.

I was happy they fixed it without even me asking or getting mad

CRA is holding back my refund due to GST bussiness account not being in compliance.

Not sure why they think I am a bussiness or why I have a GST bussiness account.

Have to call on Monday and sort it out with them.

When I was a teenager I went and stayed with a family friend for a week, who's mother was a housekeeper on a farm. Every few days we would sneak off to the pub, where we would sit and drink shandy's (we weren't of age), before wending our way back to the farm to the 'hut' out the back to sit and chat.

At the pub one day, I got chatted up by this bloke who looked just like Brian Jones of the Stones.. we sat and talked and then he walked back with us to the hut, where he and I snogged our brains out (and nothing more) and then he left - never to be seen again.

I was reading an article tonight about the Stones - and Brian - and looked up the place where he lived.. and where he went drinking.... and have just realised it's the same pub where we used to go andddddddd..........OMG! He wasn't a look alike - I'm 99% certain it was Brian Jones.

Gobsmacked!

U2's Bono comes in for a fair bit of stick (similarly, Chris Martin/Coldplay) with accusations of being a tad self righteous.

But there have been allegations of bullying and harassment in the charity he set up in 2004. He has apologised.

Not at all. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I have no idea how the design company managed to present either their design, or their bill, with a straight face. And even less idea how the government have the nerve to present it to the public.

Aside from the design, they somehow failed to choose an acronym that isn't already in use for hundreds of other purposes. Actually, now that I remember the creativity they displayed in naming the Beer Store, it isn't all that surprising.

Dyson no loner making corded vacuums. Everything is now going to be stick type or cordless.

Just in time for spring cleaning, Dyson has unveiled the newest addition to its lineup of high-tech vacuums. At a press conference in New York City yesterday, founder and chief engineer Sir James Dyson introduced the Dyson Cyclone V10, a powerful battery-operated stick vacuum that he says is “why [Dyson has] stopped developing corded vacuums.”

The blame for lost bags is often placed on us humans working on the ramp.

However the vast majority of the time its the automated systems that cause the problem.

Yesterday for example. A passenger arrived in YVR and was spending the night before flying to Hong Kong today.

The bag was tagged to Hong Kong so we took it to the international transfer belt as intl transfers dont need to go through CBSA.

Passenger decided they wanted bag.

We go down to intl bag room and bag is nowhere to be found.

The bag was lost in the automated system somewhere.

My last departure last night, I was missing 2 bags.

4 hours later the bags drop into the bag room.

Again lost in the automated system.

Its also these systems that cause most of the damage to bags. Not us humans.

In the war between Devon and Cornwall it's 'uge, Devon cream goes on first then jam, Cornwall it's the other way round, and never the twain shall meet, except for the photos in the NT brochure in question where an employee got the wrong ones for the illustration. It's so bad that a number of people have removed their subscription. NEVER get into an argument about the 'proper' way with either a Devonian or Cornwallian.

If this is true, I hope United Airlines fires the flight attendant in question. No acceptable reason why a dog or live animal should be placed in an overhead compartment.

My missus had a result yesterday. She'd ordered some aluminium backsplash tiles from an outfit in BC. They were expensive (about $600). They arrived by courier yesterday. On opening the box, she noticed that they were damaged. All in the same place (corner) so the box had been dropped. The damage wasn't major; I wouldn't have even noticed it.

She called the company, which offered a replacement or a refund. She opted for a refund, which happened in minutes. Upon asking if the company would send someone to collect the damaged tiles, she was told to throw them in the trash.

The upshot is that we have fully usable tiles that cost us nothing.

That's almost as good as the experience with Home Depot several years ago. Custom-made and installed window shutters. They look really nice, particularly because HD somehow forgot to ask us for any money.

Or the supermarket clerk that didn't spot a 48-pack of beer in the cart. I only realised when we got home and I looked at the receipt. How do you miss something that big?

I bought a kitchen faucet online from Costco. I got a nice message from UPS telling me it had been delivered but it hadn't. Advised Costco who sent me another. Then the neighbour came round and said "I have a package for you". Told Costco to cancel the replacement shipment but no response. So now have two faucets. One of which I *should* take back I suppose.

Just stick it on Kijiji.

It says something about retailers that they are so quick to write-off things.

One imagines that they build a certain amount of loss into their cost models. Either that or margins are such that they can easily afford to!

I would take it back to Costco. HD, not so much.

I fear that we shall be buying backsplash tiles from the internet as we've run out of patience with driving to tile shops in Ontario only to find that, beyond the car park full of greige minivan/SUV things, they all offer the same greige tiles. In one shop there were even customers, from Scotland, choosing between grey and grey as if, asked next week, they'd be able to tell what they'd chosen.

Yup. It's the same with racks of plants outside Walmart, with nobody watching over them. They look nice. Walmart knows they will be nicked and the loss is built into the model.

Stealing from WalMart is pretty shabby. People who do that deserve to have to live in a grey plastic box with a grey interior. Either a prison or a housing project.

Whereas WalMart simply rapes its suppliers. Its retail margins/markups are wafer-thin. The profit comes from the time lapse between buying stuff and then flogging it. It receives stuff and sells it long before it has to pay for it.

That is how large retailers make their money.

Years ago I walked out of Sainsbury’s without paying for a large bottle of fabric conditioner. My daughter was sat in the trolley and I’d put it down the side where she was sitting. I didn’t notice until I lifted her out when I got to my car. I took it back to customers service...the staff laughed at me for going back into the store. I was so relieved I hadn’t been stopped as I was walking out of the store for ‘stealing’ it.

Doubtless I'll eventually do that - after one has been installed (in case its damaged or missing parts) and when I pick a time at my local Costco when the return line is short.

Costco has a very good returns policy such that, some people, use something for a period of time and then return it for a full and no questions asked refund.
