Now I'm no fan of cricket, but even I know that 58 isn't a great score.
England 58 all out as New Zealand dominate first Test in Auckland - BBC Sport It'll be going through the motions now hoping for rain, |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I think I would enjoy having a small home bussiness selling fish supplies online and such.
Seems to be a few people doing that as a hobby job. Only problem is living in a rental and a condo doesnt seem possible as you need a bussiness license to buy wholesale. |

I have had numerous tropical tanks over the years, but never a marine tank. That's for when I build the millionaire property  |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Ill have to inquire with the property manager and see if they would permit an online only bussiness.
In the lease it says no commercial actiivty permitted and suppose this would be considered commercial but as there would be nobody coming to the building maybe it would be possible.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Both. I have been keeping aquariums since I was 10 or 11.
My parents were not keen on them so I did all the maintenance on my tanks. When I wad around 16 I had 4 fresh and 2 marine. Now I just have 2 relatively small and basic tanks. One fresh and one marine. Most of the demand for aquarium maintenance is for commercial set ups which does require skills I dont have like plumbing and carpentry skills. Fish care side though I am pretty knowlegeable at this point. Been reading and learning about fish for 30 or more years now. There is a program in Oregon at a college in aquarium science which prepare one to work in a public aquarium. I have looked into the program but not sure if I could get math skills high enough. Need to be able to do intermediate algebra along with an Written Experiential Assessment, 2 letters of reccomendation from an academic source. Math is the most difficult to acheive. I have been working on upgrading math but its not gone well. Math is why I have not gone back to school. Every program I look into seems to require math. http://www.oregoncoastcc.org/aquariu...m-application/

Tropical or marine? Surely in Vancouver there must be enough wealthy people to support a marine fish/tank/supplies business? I know it's your hobby but are you genuinely knowledgable enough to sell your skills as a business? Brilliant if you can.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Random question that I didn't feel important enough to make its own thread - when you go through CBP preclearance at YYZ, do they still stamp your passport? Last few times i've been to the US i've crossed by land and they don't stamp there / I use my NEXUS card so just curious.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
yes they do ( or at least they did last time I went)

Watching videos on you tube that people have posted showing their fish rooms/basements etc, so lucky they are...lol
.. I've recently been following a marine forum and looking at videos of 500 and 600 gallon set ups (though mine isn't that big) and reading the questions. I've been quite shocked at how many are obviously in apartments or rented houses. People report all manner of humidity issues (complaints from other tenants) and some of the set ups are clearly taxing the strength of the floor. It just seems bizarre to me to configure something that costs the price of a small car, and is difficult to move, in a rented flat. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
With the big tanks unless you own and can properly install with reinforced flooring and ventilaltion and such a big tank isnt worth it. Hard to move and well it will cause humidity issues as you say.
One reason I want a house to own is so I can have a large tank. Well 125 gallons or so. If I won the lotto would not mind a 5k gallon or so...lol My 30 gal causes no humidity issues.

We're renovating the kitchen, where the aquarium sits, and as part of that, I have a new tank and cabinet sitting in the garage. In due course the old one will be moved into the hall (somehow), the new one put in place (somehow) and the content of the old one transferred.

Scooter has a maintenance issue. Not sure yet what is wrong. Its in the shop.
Hopefully nothing major. If it is major and costly, getting to and from work will be difficult. |

I haven't seen any "Fury as brown immigrant seduces Our Prince Harry" stories yet, so perhaps the DM sycophancy to the Royals trumps its usual fury at brown people, immigrants and luvvies. |

Normally you can predict a headline in the Daily Mail by simply starting with the words "Fury as...", e.g. "Fury as Creme Eggs aren't the same any more."

While I dont dislike my job, this sort of work was more rewarding when working for an airline and getting flight benefits that permitted one to travel often.

Once took a red eye to NYC had breakfast went to empire state building, world trade center, times square and statue of liberty, got dinner and took a 7pm flight back home to west coast. When I lived in Phoenix a group of us from work all had Fri to Sun off so would fly down to Mexico almost weekly. I was early 20s then. The airline I worked for was very generous could fly anywhere we flew free. International was free but did require payment of some taxes. We had 100 some odd agreements with other airlines as well. Could for example fly on British Airways for $50 each way at the time. But I never went to Europe. Ahh the good ole days of having freedom to travel. We were not paid well but the flight benefits kept people around. I started in 1998 at 6.04 per hour. When I left in 2003 I was up to 8.83 per hour. They also provided single employees 100% healthcare no monthly premiums or co pays. Pay was low but benfits were good. All the flights I took would have been 150 or 200k if I had to purchase tickets. Had a lot of first class flights since we would be upgraded if room was available in first. |

Just a rabies certificate? |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
The first time she was too young for rabies so was exempt from needing it to cross.
Now they at times ask for a copy of her rabies which we always have but most of the time the time they never ask to see it. Same with going into the US, sometimes they ask but most of the time dont.

Food products from Canada, including pet food and fresh (frozen or chilled), cooked, canned or otherwise processed products containing beef, veal, bison, and cervid (e.g., deer, elk, moose, caribou, etc.) are now permitted from Canada in passenger baggage. Products containing sheep, lamb, or goat are prohibited and will not be allowed entry.
Travelers must provide proof of the origin of beef, pork, poultry, cervid meat, and pet food in order to bring them into the United States. Examples of proof of origin include the grocery store receipt where the product was purchased or the label on the product indicating the Province in which it was packaged. Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
After watching the England football fans ugly behavior in Amsterdam and the cheating by the Australian national cricket team it was nice to enjoy the recent Players Championship snooker tournament over the weekend. No hooliganism, no abusive language, no chanting from the crowd, not one the player took a dive, no ball tampering or any of players talking smack to each other. Just hushed silence and reverence on every shot. I think both the football and cricket authorities could learn some important lessons from snooker.

Difficult to arrange a medical appointment when the doctor is booking 4 months out, and my work schedule only gets released in 3 week increments.
No possible way I can predict when I'll be available 4 months from now... |
