That seems a bit oxymoronic. If it's genuinely witchcraft, surely it can't also have been fraud? And (the more likely scenario) vice versa.

A Websters definition states that fraud is an ' intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with something of value or to surrender a legal right'. The issue as I see it is one of proof. No doubt money changed hands voluntarily.. but is there any evidence of deception? Tricky where the evidence is by definition so intangible. |

It's not quite explicit about where he is being charged. Are there actually laws against witchcraft on the Canada statute book?

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
The premier of the Ontario province, a woman generally agreed to be well educated, confident, thoroughly in tune with the times, is virtually keelhauled in recent polling where she resides at an appalling 11 per cent. She is only slightly more popular than traffic tickets and overcooked broccoli (and even those are within the margin of error).

Interesting. How does this square with various religions who extract contributions from their membership?
Religion? On a par with witchcraft to me. Anyway it says pretend. Should be ok if you get it right.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I got up to pee during the night and in the glow of the light from my bedroom I saw a little pile of fluff on the carpet in the middle of the landing.
I reached down to pick it up only to discover it wasn't fluff as my finger went into something wet and stodgy. The cat had 'left something' in the night. Fortunately it was from the front end. |

 No, but I was curious to find out which end it came from; it had a cat food smell to it. /QUOTE] Hope he/she/it isn't sick. Count yourself lucky that it's an isolated incident, but if it recurs you could try some of those treats. I wrote a beauty of a post but didn't think it worth the backlash. |

I just did a search for The Hairball Song, and one had been posted a month ago. Don't click on it, it's terrible. Ok, maybe not terrible, but more spirited than in tune.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Why I don't like Paypal.
I wanted to make a purchase yesterday on ebay - something else I'm not keen on. According to the blurb on the listing I could pay by credit card. Except that when I got to the important bit I couldn't and I needed a paypal account. So I registered for one. But my payment wasn't accepted - apparently because I was only a guest on ebay. So against my better judgement I registered an account on ebay and went through it again. Only for my paypal sign in to not be recognised. But I only just did it. I don't forget that quickly. Nothing for it but to choose forgot password option. As prompted, I entered my email address. Which wasn't recognised. Today I get an email confirming my PayPal registration and extolling the advantages. But I can't sign in again. Again I tell them my email address but they still don't recognise it even though they just used it to email me. "Problems signing in?" Too bloody right. "click to contact us by email." Righto, I click. New page. "Please log in to send email." :frown::frown::frown::frown::frown::frown::frown: |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
My dad sent me an amazon US gift card for my birthday, so I ordered a few things we needed Tuesday morning at 8am. I paid for normal shipping which said 7-10 days.
Got home today, and a box sitting outside. It was the amazon US ordered I did yesterday. Tracking says they went Newark, NJ to Louisville, KY, to Seattle, WA to Vancouver, BC. Not bad but no idea why Amazon sent it overnight express. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Maybe they just had room on that flight? Sometimes you get really quick delivery. I got fishing reels from England in about 5 or 6 days with no charges and it's lucky to get anything that quick.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
My wife sent 2 commissioned paintings to customers in England via Canada Post back in February. Neither have arrived. They are covered by insurance, but it's such a waste of time, energy and money when a simple delivery can't be achieved.

My wife ordered a small present for christmas from China in November. Shortly afterwards tracking showed it to be in Vancouver, we are in the Fraser Valley. It arrived last week after 4 months waiting somewhere. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Issue with parcels coming to Canada from Asia seems to be CBSA from what I have gathered from Canada Post.
Anything from China I have sent to Washington to pick up. Takes on average 3 to 6 days from China vs 2 or 3 months to Canada.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I've had two Canada Post parcel deliveries in the last week both arriving on the date Best Buy, Walmart and Canada Post tracking said they would arrive.
