They don't need to be supported at all because this isn't a peer-reviewed journal. I'm telling you bears kill more people in Canada every year than spiders, snakes and sharks kill people in Australia. I know this to be a fact, but I care not very much what is thought about this statement on here. If anyone has an interest in this or doubts it they can check it out. There we are.

I don't check my bed every night for bears before I go sleep - do you check yours for spiders? How about going for a pee in the night? Put on the light? No danger of a bear landing on your head whilst you're taking a leak....

The kill stats may be right, but the point is, if you go into an area that's known for bears, then you're expecting them - spiders are everywhere!

I don't care about a spiders vs. bears debate, but if you're going to make statements that you want to be considered as fact, then some proof helps your credibility, peer supported journal or not.

Possibly a more effective method of protecting humans and nature?

After arduous research I can find no facts to support this. Sounds a load of hogwash. If you have facts to back it up your statements, why the reluctance to share them?

I thought that the last time someone in Australia had actually been killed by a snake bite or a bite from a spider was a very long time ago, not the case with deaths from bears in Canada - I could be wrong though

Edit- here is info about spider bites: http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseu...downunder.html

Info about snake bites:http://members.iinet.net.au/~bush/myth.html

It would appear that more people are killed each year in Europe from falling from horses than are killed each year in Australia from snake bites.

Hunters are most at risk from bears or those that invade their territory. Most bear kills are in the back country, not many happen in tourist or residential spots. A shark can get you swimming off a tourist beach, a spider can get you in bed or sitting on the toilet, a snake can hide under the house or in the garden.

you are quite right. what is brushed over though is there are thousands of snake and spider bites each year, LINK below, excert - Each year in Australia as many as 4,000 people are bitten. Of these 200 require anti venom treatment and one bite proves fatal.- i would say that there are not thousands of bear bites, clawings, encounters involving injury only.

the difference between the last person killed JUST by a SPIDER and now, is the anti venom that has been developed and that is now more readily available, all in the LINK.

Now i know whats coming, you can't get an anti bear bite shot, once your leg has been gnawed off its pretty much gone. thats what large calibre rifles are for though i would contend.

quite. i've never known anyone argue a point and then say they don't care. i don't think asking someone to make their argument just a little bit credible with supporting evidence is asking too much personally.

you wouldn't be saying that if a big spider was crawling up your sheets to the bottom of your bed.

I accept that, just like I accept that, from the links above, it would appear that very few people are bitten by a snake while sitting on the shitter!
